History

[edit]

The British Royal Navy, the French Navy, and the U.S. Navy all experimented with the Temperley transporter during the 1890s in their efforst to find a reliable method to recoal their warships at sea. See Spencer Miller, "Coaling Warships at Sea" Transactions of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, vol. 7 (189): 1-18. Lbart73 (talk) 16:14, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, year of publication should read 1899. Miller's article mentions the transporter but gives few details of its operations. It seems to have been one of the more successful ideas tried, although no truly effective method of coaling at sea was ever found. Lbart73 (talk) 16:18, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

I see no reason for the notability template. I searched for the word and found the article, which gives at least a minimum of information. --Årvasbåo (talk) 16:06, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
