clean-up tag
[edit]I added a clean-up tag to this page, noting the following issues -- page has a link to a webpage outside wikipedia, external pages should go in a seperate "external links" section. the "br" tags aren't wiki style. The writing style might need general cleanup, the page reads like a paper written by someone. "(unpublished, communication to the author)"??? There's a lot of Harvard references not given in a references section. Needs better referencing. A picture might help the page, although that isn't a clean-up issue. Madeleine 19:44, 20 May 2007 (UTC) PS - I'm concerned the page was copy / pasted from somewhere and might be a copyright violation, but I can't find evidence for that with cursory google searching. intro
[edit]I changed it, cause the prev version was not right. If you change it, please note that the important thing is the gradient. The specilized comment is quite fair and NPOV, if you are familiar with pubmed, you will know that 228 citations is miniscule. Cinnamon colbert 00:33, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Not the most important thing but: "T Creighton of the MRC lab in England was the first person to do this" ...there's more than one MRC lab in England! If I get a spare moment with my journal accesses I may see if it gives more info in the reference given...TrentandtheAcrobats (talk) 23:50, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
D R Thatcher and B Hodson ( Biochem J. 1981 July 1; 197(1): 105–10) cite Creighton [(1979) J. Mol. Biol. 129, 253-264] as the originator of the method.
The Journal of Molecular Biology is housed at a for profit publisher, originally academic press, but I think AP has been absorbed into a larger company.

[edit]I removed the applications section about mycobacterial diversity (very specific example of a posible application in microbial ecology) and replaced it with a section about microbial ecology in general.
I also added a picture of a DGGE gel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bioguz (talk • contribs) 19:54, 2 September 2008 (UTC) ==re removal 2009 methanogen paper== thanks, that ref seemed awfully specialized for this articleCinnamon colbert (talk) 12:56, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

dna stability is stacking interactions
[edit]it is a common misperception that the difference in hydrogen bonds between AT and GC bps accounts for the higher thermal stability of gc rich dna. this is wrong. the stability is due mostly to intra strand stacking interactions between the planar bases. I believe this is elucidated in the dna article.Cinnamon colbert (talk) 01:27, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
New title: DGE
[edit]TGGE and DGGE are both versions of the DGE technique. I suggest we rename this page to Denaturing gel electrophoresis (DGE), with subdivision into TGGE and DGGE. Does anybody disagree? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pstragier (talk • contribs) 08:11, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
- Suggest 'Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (GGE)', as reliance on the technique supersedes reliance on the denaturing agent? Also, keeps the core of the acronym coherent. Handibles (talk) 17:05, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
