Protocol Missing
[edit]I remember using this protocol back in the day and went looking for it on a nostalgia kick. I also remember "fighting" with people at work who kept calling it the "TAPI" protocol which was a Microsoft API.
This article says nothing about how to get a message to a pager
This link does https://productdocuments.mitel.com/AEM/Business-Phone-Systems/MX-ONE/7_0/HTML5/57_1551-ANF90143.pdf but it took me a while to remember how we used it.
We had to DIAL either using a dialup modem or I think we also used a computer dialing board. The serial speeds mentioned in the article would be to interface to the modem. The protocol was the sequence of characters (and response) that you got from the modem in order to send the message to the pager. In any case the interface was through the dial up network, not any kind of internet. Each paging provider had a phone number with their TAP compatible terminal attached to that number so you had to dial the number of the provider of the taraget pager and communicate with that terminal. 136.33.99.240 (talk) 15:46, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
