[edit]Monotypic? What about Telescopus semiannulatus and beetzii? Should at least have a redirect if that sp. has been redefined. kwami (talk) 15:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Also dhara, gezirae, (dhara) obtusus, (dhara) somalicus, tripolitanus etc (from here).
- This is the typical Polbot parsing error - hoogstrali was the only species listed as endangered in the IUCN Redlist, so the bot assumed the genus was monotypic. Least Concern species were only parsed in a later bot run but by then the redirect was in place. Telescopus fallax, Telescopus nigriceps and Telescopus tessellatus are IUCN-evaluated as Species of Least Concern. They ought to be in Wikipedia but are not; either because the bot could not create the genus article because the redirect was already there, or because they are only listed since last year and Polbot was active in 2006/2007.
- You may have noted that in some genus stubs (plants in particular) a phrase "It contains the following species (but there may be more)" occurs. This is the quick fix for this redirect issue we had the bot apply back then. But in particular for amphibians and reptiles it came too late - 10.000 or so species articles and their corresponding genus articles had already been created. Most of them are OK, but there are quite a few which are messed up such as here, and it was of course not possible to manually check them all... so they need to be fixed as soon somebody notes.
- I did not have a complete and reliable genus list when I noted this problem here, so I didn't scratch up a genus stub in lieu of the redirect.
- FWIW, T. hoogstrali was initially included in T. fallax as subspecies. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 16:36, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've created a stub for the genus. Also have pix of T. semi. that I'll put up. kwami (talk) 16:47, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
