comedy-drama?
[edit]Just noticed, because of this edit, that TW is being listed as a comedy-drama. That seems... wrong. Ally McBeal is a comedy-drama (or dramedy). Are there multiple sources that refer to this series as that kind of show? It seems like it's a teen horror drama with comedic elements, but the comedy does not seem part of the structure of the show. —Joeyconnick (talk) 03:11, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed; comedy shouldn't be added without a source. -- AlexTW 04:52, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Casting
[edit]The large discrepency between the age of cast members and the characters they play is topical to the cast section and supported by links to Wiki's related to the cast. Mavigogun (talk) 16:37, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- As I stated, that's not how WP:V works. You need references to directly cite what you state. Wikipedia also cannot cite itself; see WP:CITEWIKI. -- AlexTW
- Wikipedia also relys on good faith effort and due diligence- rather than redacting edits that have readily available references, such edits should be tagged with a need for such references. The tact taken here by AlexTheWhovian has the appearance of leveraging guidelines to support a preference rather than application in good faith.Mavigogun (talk) 16:50, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, it does. The reverts should have been considered good faith rather than forced contested dispute. No references supported the content that you added, hence the reversion, and {{cn}} is not an excuse to add unsourced information, any editor can tell you that. I recommend you ask at WT:V; they'll tell you the same thing. Given that you are now (amusingly) referring to me by name, I assume you have no intention to discuss the content with me directly, and you no longer wish to rely on good faith. -- AlexTW 16:53, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- Amusement or other expressions- contempt, etc -are not appropriate here. Your assumption is mistaken: my intent was to remove critique from a directly accusatory tone and an attempt to step back from ensnarement in battles of ego or personal antagonism.

There are many, many articles commenting on the remarkable gap between the age of the actors from the titular "Teen" group; references for the age of the cast are readily available; are there other, more substantive objections to this very brief inclusion of fact that speaks directly to the section and article topic? Considering the ease by which what you cite as cause for exclusion may be had, it would be helpful if any other/more substantive objections be made now, before work is spent addressing these maters of dubious consequence.Mavigogun (talk) 17:11, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- First off, Alex is correct in stating that as the edit referencing the actors' ages was new, it is up to the person or people advocating for its addition to support its inclusion once it's been reverted. Secondly, I edit many TV-related articles where the cast's ages don't match their characters and I've seen zero reference to that in those articles, so anyone wanting to add that kind of mention would first need to show that said age gaps were covered widely by reliable sources. Even then, the coverage of these gaps is not enough in and of itself to merit its inclusion, because Wikipedia is not WP:INDISCRIMINATE, which is to say that not everything ever said in sources warrants inclusion in the encyclopedia. Given age disparity between actors and characters is a hugely common thing in Hollywood, I'm not sure how its existence among the Teen Wolf cast is particularly noteworthy. Maybe in the case of something like Smallville where at its launch Tom Welling was in his mid-20s and his female co-star Kristin Kreuk wasn't the age of majority in many US jurisdictions at the time might be noteworthy. Or with respect to how common the "older actors playing younger characters" trope is, the fact that when Dylan Sprayberry started on Teen Wolf at age 15 or 16, he actually was significantly younger than the rest of the cast – I believe that was at least noted in the entertainment press at the time he joined the show. But a generic "The actors are often significantly older than the characters they are portraying" statement with no direct citation? 100% unworthy of mention. —Joeyconnick (talk) 20:07, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your thoughts, Joeyconnick. For sure, references should (and can) be provided- though you highlight the core question: relative significance. Sprayberry's addition to the cast speaks to the question, as it was remarked on at the time for he being an actual teenager, in contrast to all the other long time primary cast members. Similarly, when Crystal Reed left the show after 3 seasons, she cited her age difference from the character as one of the reasons, saying "I think the age difference was something I wanted to change as well because she’s 17”. Reed at the time was 29. I reckon a series killing off a prominent character after the actor leaves citing age as significant. While these might be individually noteworthy, more broadly this series has invited and received particular scrutiny of the actors ages due it's title. Whether it should be noteworthy considering how common the practice of casting much older actors to play youth is we are not tasked with adjudicating. Numbers of remarks is not alone an indicator of "importance", however that may be defined. I suggest we record the general regard (and, perhaps, the specific instances listed above) as it speaks to future Wiki readers of the series contemporary setting; further, I suggest any such reflection be done in a way that doesn't synthesize judgement and or add undue weight, leaving the reader to decide for themselves. This might be accomplished with a single sentence anchored by Reed's statement contrasted with Sprayberry's addition- the wording of which could first be worked out here.Mavigogun (talk) 17:14, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
- putting together a generic notice/sentence that would be based on Reed's statement and Sprayberry's age is pure WP:SYNTH. Unless there are multiple RS that reference the age differentials on Teen Wolf in general, this is a non-starter. —Joeyconnick (talk) 22:09, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
- Perhaps- but that isn't what was suggested: rather, cited statements made about both- Sprayberry's age wouldn't be cited independent of the article remarking on his age. Were it as you suggest, paring a citation with another actor's age for contrast without context, then ya, that would be synthesis. Inclusion of reference to either article and other published statements about the age of the cast would accurately reflect what many have remarked. Again, an actor reports leaving the production explicitly due to this circumstance- remark-worthy,no?

- Considering how these items might best be included would go a long way toward weighing the merit. Giving thin-if-any consideration/misread with no attempt to craft texts seems more predisposition than collaboration. Mavigogun (talk) 03:25, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
