Proposed removal - section on TAChart
[edit]TAChart is not Teechart and as such it has been proposed that it should not form part of a page titled "TeeChart". It has been suggested that the section pertaining to TAChart be removed as soon as possible. If it is considered that any part is relevant then an alternative section should be suggested.
Existing text under main TeeChart banner section:
TAChart, a similar open-source implementation, is bundled with the LCL of the Lazarus IDE. TAChart is not intended to be a TChart clone, therefore its usage differs in certain points, although its basic functionality is very similar and some source code written for TeeChart may be reused.
Existing text under External links and programmer reference:
The Lazarus IDE for Free Pascal bundles TAChart, a similar component, for which extensive documentation is available online.[1]

- I agree, the more as there is an article on its own on TAChart. It might be useful, however, to make a "See also" section at the end of both articles (TeeChart and TAChart) linking to the alternative component. BTW, there is a redirect article on TChart that points to TeeChart. In my opinion, this is misleading, too.--Jwdietrich2 (talk) 08:05, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. I'll look at the exact format of the TAChart library to better describe it's relationship for a "See also" section in TeeChart. With respect "redirect article on TChart that points to TeeChart". Is that a typo? Do you mean "redirect article on TAChart that points to Teechart"? Mmbcn (talk) 09:24, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- No, TAChart isn't a redirect page, but Tchart is.--Jwdietrich2 (talk) 19:23, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I'm with you now. I see the issue stems from TAChart using the same coding component name ("TChart") as TeeChart. TeeChart's chart component, 'TChart', was available in public domain Object Pascal from 1995 and I see that TAChart used the name from 2005. With both in place I propose that the ambiguity be resolved with a disambiguation page Wikipedia:Disambiguation. With respect to the see-also section, the standard for Wikipedia graphing components is links to List of graphing software that offers the reader a fuller view and is more likely to remain generic going forward. That may be the best choice for both the TeeChart and TAChart pages.
