Inaccurate Description... Kinda.

[edit]

The sentence "It is said to resemble a small stubby legged dog with the ears of a cat." is not supported by the cited material. The book in question does not compare the appearance to a dog, stubby-legged or otherwise, nor is there a mention of ears.

However this inaccuracy has been up on Wikipedia for so long, that now countless articles exist that have copied this description from Wikipedia and attributed them to the teakettler, such as the one on the website of the Pine Barrens Institute, which appears to have directly copied its description from this wikipedia page.

Thus it may be argued that this inaccuracy in the description has come to be true, since folklore is an ever-evolving thing. The majority of artistic depictions online all appear to be based on this inaccurate description.

I'm not a Wikipedia editor, so I don't know if this warrants removing the incorrect sentence... or accepting that what was once an incorrect statement has existed for so long it is now unironically accurate to how most people view the legend. 98.144.198.176 (talk) 20:43, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
