Requested move

The result of the proposal was move Taxi to Taxi (disambiguation) and redirect Taxi to Taxicab; no consensus to move Taxicab to Taxi, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 19:29, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
– The vehicle for hire also known as a taxicab is pretty much obviously (in my opinion) the WP:primary topic. The only other common meaning of the word is the aircraft action, but it is a verb and is appropriately located at taxiing. It could be mentioned in a hatnote together with the dab link if necessary. - Support Yes, this seems like a commonsense primary topic case. --BDD (talk) 22:16, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
- Support Move as per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Zarcadia (talk) 00:15, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose' the Taxicab → Taxi part of the proposal, for which no justification has been offered. Dicklyon (talk) 06:58, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't understand your claims. What I meant above was that the article now titled taxicab is the primary topic for the word taxi. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:32, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well, to be exact the move proposal should mean (a) the subject called "taxicab" is more commonly known as "taxi" so should be at that title, and also (b) that subject is the primary topic for the word "taxi". I tend to agree with both, but they are two separate things and don't always go together: it would be quite reasonable to ask for "Taxi" to be a redirect to Taxicab and the dab page to be moved to Taxi (disambiguation), if (b) but not (a) was true! - I have no objections to this. There's a primary topic for "taxi," whether the main article is called that or taxicab. --BDD (talk) 21:04, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Support move of Taxi to Taxi (disambiguation). There is a primary topic for this term, and that topic is taxicab. Oppose move of Taxicab to Taxi; since some people call it a taxi and some call it a cab, it's best to have a title that incorporates both common names. Powers T 20:10, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Question: What would you have at Taxi, then? (I'm guessing a redirect to Taxicab, given your statement that you consider that to be the primary topic for the term). DH85868993 (talk) 02:25, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed. Powers T 22:03, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

- Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 20:58, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose - Do not see that either "topic" is primary.--Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 04:57, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Word origin
[edit]Is the word origin of "taxi" Taxis?
