It is claimed in the family history entitled "The Targetts of Rotherhithe" compiled by Sidney Targett that a Francis William Targett (b. 1776) of Hampshire, England emigrated to New Brunswick and was granted land in the vicinity of the Chockpist (sic) River. The formation of Targettville occurred over a generation later. Sidney Targett does not provide details of his sources for the entry concerning New Brunswick.
