"Target audience" may be used in the wider sense of "target market", but in a narrower and more appropriate sense it applies to any sort of media audience, i.e. radio, tv, internet. A merger would confuse issues since "target audience" in the mediatic sense does not automatically imply either (commercial) market interests or anything but a wish to define a program by addressing its different groups of listeners/viewers/users (the term is used for non-profit broadcasting as well as for commercial media).

Just merge them... they both provide good inofrmation so it couldn't hurt, right?

They're actually quite different. The way you use segmetation on "target" and "audience" differs a lot, so it would not be correct to merge them.. Target audience segmentation is based on attitude an loyalty, while target market is based on variables such as demographics, geography and psycographics.. Cha



I don't recommend merging the two terms. "Target audience" is an advertising term; "Target market" is a marketing term. A targeted audience could be composed of more than one targeted market.GMPHARO 22:01, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
