Non neutral
[edit]The article is written on a Peruvian nationalist point of view. This article about the Chilean department should only treat the department itself. Although I think the disputed territory should be part of the article, the tone is not neutral. The Spanish Wikipedia version should be used as a basis for the recreation-rewriting of this article. --Bedivere (talk) 22:16, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- @180app Hi there. The tag was removed. While the article reads better now, I think the administrative history (i. e. the creation of the department, the elevation of Tarata town to departmental capital, creation of a newspaper (it is available on the Chilean National Library) and the suppression of the department - which had nothing to do with the Peruvian claims against the own Chilean claims). Later on, we can discuss the controversy surrounding the territory itself, which is an interesting side of history. Bedivere (talk) 18:32, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Cheers mate, the article still needs some work, of course. I took the time nevertheless to reword some bits so that the NPOV tag would no longer be necessary. Whatever changes you're able to add right now are welcome of course. Perhaps you might be able to help with sourcing Chilean POVs (such as the National Library)? In any case I might get to work on those very things you've mentioned (among others, e.g. other former Chilean regions still read like stubs) at some point soon, since I've been working on local (geography-wise) articles for a bit now hehe. 180app (talk) 19:05, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Keep up the good work. I might as well help you out with those regions (provinces) articles later on. I may do some work on this later today. Bedivere (talk) 19:14, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- I went ahead and added some info from the Spanish Wiki and reworded the History section btw, I think that covers maybe half of the points you raised. Feel free to add whatever is missing as there's definitely some work to be done. 180app (talk) 04:43, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I will have a look at La Nación (which is digitized) to see if there was another reason, unclear just by looking at the law, for the suppression of Tarata department. Bedivere (talk) 06:31, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- The Sep. 23, 1921 issue of La Nación, p. 8, includes some notes which may be interesting to this article. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru protested the inclusion of Tarata and Estique into the Tacna province of Chile. "President of the Republic had a lengthy interview with the Foreign Minister to study the definitive work destined to counter the Chilean law on Tarata. It was announced that part of the speeches by the Foreign Minister at the Chamber of Deputies responding the Chilean Foreign Minister, Barros Jarpa, will be published". --Bedivere (talk) 06:40, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- Sep. 22 issue has a note saying "El Comercio makes some comments about the territories of Tarata, Tarucachi and Estique, comprised within the department of Tacna, qualifying the situation as an usurpation by the Government of Chile". Bedivere (talk) 06:42, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
