Tarantino → Tarantino (surname) – the primary topic for Tarantino is Quentin Tarantino, and it should redirect to his page. Anyone saying "Tarantino" almost undoubtedly means QT, and the name is frequently used with no qualification and is immediately recognizable as referring to him. Note that when The Hateful Eight came out, pageviews for "Tarantino" skyrocketed, and continued to stay highly for quite a while as award buzz picked up. So, yes, people are searching just "Tarantino" to find Quentin's article. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 04:46, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose this inappropriate primarytopic grab. The article Quentin Tarantino already has an ideal title, and has no need of this grab. Dicklyon (talk) 05:25, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- No one is suggesting a rename of the filmmaker article - this is about a potential redirect. Dohn joe (talk) 12:32, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support this is a convincing case, he's in the same league as Scorsese for sure. And really I just get sad when disambiguation pages get high views when readers are clearly only looking for one topic there - as the nominator notes this happened to the "Tarantino" page very recently - so yeah throw readers a bone here. Nohomersryan (talk) 06:01, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose All the major search engines return Wikipedias article on Quentin in the top 2 results for a "Tarantino" search (and Quentin is always the #1 result). The current setup doesn't create a barrier to people searching for the article on Quentin. Keeping Tarantino as dab page helps to ensure that incoming links intending Quentin or anybody else get sent to the right page. Plantdrew (talk) 06:05, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support. I am annoyed that Quentin is given no prominence on this disambiguation page, forcing readers to comb through articles they don't want to read to get to it. A redirect is the best choice here. MelanieLamont (talk) 06:18, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support, the director is the clear primary topic for this term, and he is often referred to by his surname only. Six of the seven links to this article are intended for Quentin Tarantino, in fact. —Xezbeth (talk) 12:30, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support per WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. The pageview evidence is convincing that people use "Tarantino" to reach the filmmaker article. Sending folks to the dab page unnecessarily is a bad thing! Dohn joe (talk) 12:32, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. We rarely do this, not even for Kennedy, which when used by itself, in American publications, almost always refers to JFK. The problem here is one of WP:Systemic bias, the assumption that what most comes to mind for an American is what comes to mind for an Italian or an Irish person (or someone from Belize or whatever). — SMcCandlish ☺ ☏ ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ≼ 22:13, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry, but the assertion that this is rarely done is patently false. For other filmmakers? Hitchcock, Kubrick, Kurosawa, Polanski, Spielberg, Scorsese and surely others point to specific people, despite other meanings. "Kennedy" is an extremely common surname with several prominent holders outside of JFK, while Tarantino is not. If I was trying to get Allen to redirect to Woody Allen it might be relevant, but I don't see how it is here. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 22:54, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support, as of now the director is surely by far the primary and, as stated above, this has been done in the cases of many noted directors already. If in the future another Tarantino with equal notability emerges (for instance, the "Kennedy" example forgets Bobby, Ted, Joe Sr., Caroline, and more, apparently, to come, not exactly equal to JFK but circling right below) then this could be revisited. - Support – Well attested mononym. — JFG talk 09:03, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- Support – This is a case almost identical to the Schwarzenegger redirect to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Quentin Tarantino is undoubtedly the most likely person readers will be searching for when they type in "Tarantino". Plus he also has much more long-term significance, making Quentin Tarantino the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. Eventhorizon51 (talk) 14:44, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
