Why I have removed the redirect and placed a single article
[edit]The reasons are as follows
- The temple of Osiris is quite significant in the study of the Egypt of the Pharaohs. If you were to go by the references listed you will find quite some references to this temple.
- Although the city of Abu Sir is mentioned while explaining the history of the area, this name was not used at the time of the Pharaohs. Instead, it is used mostly by modern authors from the twentieth century on wards. I have not been able to locate this city on Google Maps. The coordinates point to a location which is not named, but is well developed. Like a lot of hotels in the neighborhood (including some hotels) the urban sprawl may call itself Abu Sir, but there is no historical structure visible near this city on Google Maps.
- There is some confusion between the current location on Google Maps for Lake Mariout, and its representation in books. In the books used as reference the whole lake paralleling the Mediterranean Sea is called Lake Mariout, while on Google Maps only a small section of it is called by that name. Interestingly none of the archaeological structures mentioned in the article on the lake appear on Google maps near that location.
I have also not been able to find any reliable route map to the temple of Osiris. After spending hours on Google maps I could not fathom its location. Any help in this regard would be appreciated. Wikishagnik (talk) 14:03, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Widely available tools improve all the time. The temple structure is located at
- 30.946178, 29.518692
- 30°56'46.2"N 29°31'07.3"E
- About 45km from central Alexandria, it's about 200 meters inland of the Marsa Matrouh / International Coastal Road and 700 meters East of the New Borg El-Arab City - Marsa Matrouh Road. It's very near (within easy walking distance of) a coastal resort development called in English "Golden Beach North Coast". Rt3368 (talk) 06:19, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
- I've made a stab at a modest infobox. Rt3368 (talk) 07:11, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
