Stephenson
[edit]Her real last name is Stephenson, it says so on the inlays to her albums, I know her personally (kind of), she has told me herself through facebook that is her name, but if that's not good enough here are an endless list of sources.

Need I really continue? K. (talk) 18:36, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- Most of those are not reliable sources - did you read what the guidance on reliable sources says? The only two of those which could potentially be used as sources are the VP Records page and Allmusic (although the bio there states that she was born Vivienne Stephenson, not Vivienne Tanya Stephenson). The rest are not reliable sources. The Jamaica Observer reference that you keep removing is, unlike virtually all of these, an independent reliable source. You also removed as part of you edits several other reliable sources and reliably-sourced information. This is unacceptable. Please also read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. --Michig (talk) 22:38, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
There is something broken with Djjazzyb's understanding of WP:RS. The references added to the lead of the Tanya Stephens article are junk:
- de.wikipedia.org
- www.discogs.org
- itunes.apple.com
- www.rhapsody.com
- …
Yes, aside from the de-wp one, these verify that there seems to be a performer by that name, but if they deserve any space at all, they should be in External Links. As it is, they seem to be supporting the biographical information in the lead, which is not correct. Furthermore, the fact that someone random on the internet claims to know the performer is uninteresting, and not WP:RS. Kerfuffler (talk) 00:55, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- How about the interview? How about I take a picture of the CD inlay where it clearly says "V. Stephenson" (say the word and I'll do it)? And I'm pretty sure that the VP Records bio is a more reputable source than Jamaica Observer. I'm pretty sure Tanya-- Or Vivienne-- herself can be classed as the most reputable source. Please tell me how you can possibly deny that Stephenson is her REAL surname? Honestly? K. (talk) 01:02, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, a lot of the the sources aren't as reputable as others, but I'm pretty sure if her own record label says Stephenson then it's Stephenson. As for "the fact that someone random on the internet claims to know the performer is uninteresting", Tanya is known to her fans to be a very socially active person and cares a lot about her fans. She has a personal facebook account that her fans can add her on([1]). Can there honestly be an actual problem here? K. (talk) 01:02, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

- We need to look at all of the sources here that satisfy our criteria for reliable sources (and not those that don't) and reflect these in the article. I have another one based on The Encyclopedia of Popular Music that states that she was born Tanya Stephenson. Trouble is, that book is full of errors, and due to very successful syndication (some of the Allmusic bios credited to 'Rovi' are direct copies of entries in that encyclopedia), those errors are propagated to several other sources. The same book states that Jacob Miller died in 1973, for example. Here's two more newspaper articles that support Stephens: Jamaica Star, Jamaica Observer. So on that issue we can at best state that sources conflict. On the rest of the article, I see no justification for removing sourced information and replacing it with unsourced content in a version which is no less a stub than it was before.--Michig (talk) 08:06, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, the last couple of days aside, lets at least get back to the Stephens/Stephenson matter. Now, granted a lot of the sources were bad, but it's pretty messed up if VP records doesn't know her real name, I'm pretty sure if it says it there it should be considered by all to be true, right? K. (talk) 01:10, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. I got blocked for 24hrs for adding unsourced material, and you've added more than 1,000 characters of material without sources in the discography section, I suggest you find sources within the next 7days or I'll report you. K. (talk) 01:10, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- All from the records themselves or photographs of them. It would be more helpful if you could identify definitive sources that we can use to verify the surname. By the way, the credits on her singles vary between T. Stephen, T. Stephens, V. Stevenson, etc.--Michig (talk) 07:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

- Like I said before, I really don't see how VP Records could not be definitive enough, could you please tell me? Because if it says it there let's be honest there's practically no chance it's wrong, right? K. (talk) 10:29, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Could any of those be reliable sources? K. (talk) 10:40, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- The channelaka one appears to be a copy of an old version of this article. The Yahoo music and artistdirect ones are copies of the Allmusic bio. spindmusic doesn't look like a reliable source. United Reggae - maybe. The VP records one is probably the best of those, but there's still the issue that at least two Jamaican newspapers state 'Stephens', including one from an interview with her. I don't see how we can be sure one way or another from the sources we have. --Michig (talk) 10:52, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Do you own any of Tanya's albums? If so you could just check the inlay? Alternatively, I could upload a picture of the inlay to gangsta blues where it says "V. Stephenson"? But I still don't see how VP isn't proof enough lol K. (talk) 11:11, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
This seems to be a good source and has helped me on this article a few times? K. (talk) 11:17, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- I asssume you mean the name listed as the author of the song? Those are usually pretty definitive (although the often just use a first initial), because they're specifying the legal name for copyright purposes. I have seen a few errors (I have a lot of CDs), but I'd personally be happy with it. —Kerfuffler 11:20, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- OK, how about we go with Stephenson with a note that several sources state 'Stephens' as her birth name? --Michig (talk) 11:21, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I'd be OK with that. :-) K. (talk) 11:31, 10 September 2012 (UTC) P.S. You'll notice that I've written articles for Tarantula Records & Infallible (album), aswell as making major improvements to Gangsta Blues & Rebelution (Tanya Stephens album). Although they're quite well written so far, they still need work (added info, sourcing etc.), I would be really grateful if someone could give me a hand on fully completing them? Thanks, K. (talk) 11:45, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- And These Streets (Tanya Stephens song). Thanks, K. (talk) 11:48, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
This seems to have been sorted out, so I'm de-watchlisting this. Enjoy, and play nice! —Kerfuffler 14:32, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
