Maybe someone can find a video of the slapping advertisement?--WitchesBrew82 18:22, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
- I was thinking the same thing--82.152.138.225 12:38, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
people were angry at these people for ruining their town: http://swansea-res.org.uk/news.html and http://swansea-res.org.uk/tv_advert.html and the video is here http://swansea-res.org.uk/img/video/tango_swansea.mpg
- The domain name http://swansea-res.org.uk was registered by the advertising company behind Tango adverts so I think it is a pretend website designed to gain more exposure for the brand. KingGorack 10:15, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Question: Was there an advert featuring a ficticious cult where they all whorshipped "JIM" chanting his name. Also a scene with a dog humping someones leg.
- Yes there was, I remember it, and you could send away for an orange rubber doll that they worshipped by phoning the number on the screen.--212.146.46.247 (talk) 10:19, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- It was traditional at the start of Cardiacs' gigs for the audience to chant “JIM JIM JIM JIM” while bassist Jim Smith just stood there completely stone-faced. I wonder which came first ;) Mr Larrington (talk) 11:49, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
The 'JIM' advert is for Tango Lemon actually, from about 1996. I don't know what the phone number did, but 'JIM' was a blue man. Can someone tell me what year this ads were? They were very rude. 1996 i think, but it might be 1995 or 1994.--77.99.231.37 (talk) 15:01, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
The playground slapping thing was definitely real, I remember a documentary about advertising on Channel 4 where they interviewed the head of Tango and he said he was personally telephoned by a surgeon who had just had to operate on a child's ear which had become injured because of a "tango" slap. Tango immediately pulled the slapping advert and replaced it with a nearly identical advert where the orange bloke kisses the man instead.--212.146.46.247 (talk) 10:19, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I've added a few bits and pieces, tidied the article up, and merged the stuff about the slapping controversy into one section instead of two, as it was just repeating itself.--212.146.46.247 (talk) 10:41, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Image:Tango softdrink.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Citation
[edit]I have a citation for where it is asked for one (where it says 'Making Tango the first fizzy drink to have black packaging'). Visit the Britvic website, then go to Tango, and then look in the 'Trivia' section at the bottom. --77.99.231.37 (talk) 21:06, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Ask
[edit]Can i just ask that you plaese don't revert my (sourced) edits without reason. To type your reason, please place here. Thank you --92.237.88.53 (talk) 00:23, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- I haven't reverted your edits, but I've cut some of the advertising stuff back a bit, as it seemed to be going into excessive detail about very minor aspects of the Tango product; if any of the campaigns are genuinely notable, the detail should go in a separate article, as has been done with the St George advertisement. It's good that you're archiving the history of the campaigns so meticulously, right down to minor jokes from twenty-year-old promotional phonelines, but an encyclopaedia isn't really the place for that amount of exhaustive detail - it'd be better to build that archive on your own site somewhere (with whatever embedded videos and images you like), and just link to it. --McGeddon (talk) 14:19, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Introduction of new varieties
[edit]Claims that
- In the 1990s, long after the other products in the range had passed into obscurity, the Tango brand was expanded into other flavours
I can't be sure, but I think the apple flavour (at least) was around in the late 80s, and a date given elsewhere says 1988. As I said, I can't be sure, but I'm not the one claiming a definitive date, so the onus is on the claim being made to be backed up. Ubcule (talk) 22:09, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Who named Tango?
[edit]This article credits Ivan Colman with the name Tango, but the Corona (soft drink) article credits Frank Webster. Neither cites a source. Verbcatcher (talk) 23:40, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
