Reference sources
[edit]The following may be useful for referencing or expanding the article:
- Mini ballast tamper - stand-alone unit for use by P-Way crews for spot sleeper replacement, etc. Useful pics + description of relative benefits.
- Postcard showing 1969 tamper in US
- Plasser & Theurer patent
- Another patent
Plenty more available - these were from the first Google page! (NB - this page was 2nd in the list...)

How does it "know" where it is?
[edit]Information about how the machine positions itself accurately would be useful. One presumes that driving the arms into the sleepers is a no-no.... Is there a camera? Is the move to the next spot made by the driver or a computer? Etc.
Article Improvement
[edit]This article really needs a lot of work. There's a decent amount of information here, but nearly all of it is unsourced. I have access to a book on the topic (I added a few references from it today) but it is strictly from an American perspective, while the existing article is from a British perspective and using British English. Some of the sections without any references may need to be removed if we cannot find any references to support them.
Over the next few days I plan on rewriting nearly the entire article with references to substantiate it. If anyone has further references or other information to add it would be greatly appreciated. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 02:30, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
