Notability

[edit]

This article has the template "The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for music". Since the subject of this article is a stage musical (or, a musical play if that is more understood), not exactly "topics related to music, including artists, bands, albums, and songs" (per WP:NMUSIC), it is hard for me to figure out how to establish notability. There do not seem to be specific guidelines for stage works (either musicals or plays). Therefore, I propose that the essay (not a guideline or policy) Wikipedia:Notability vs. prominence and the general notability guides at WP:NOTE apply.

Per those guiding principles, this subject (the stage musical Take Flight) is notable, because it meets the General notability guideline -- "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list" (WP:GNG). The article is sourced with reliable sources, including reviews, one by The New York Times. There have been two productions, one in London and one in New Jersey, and the musical was written by well-known creative artists who have their own articles.

I will wait a few days, say one week from today, before removing the "notability" template.Flami72 (talk) 10:51, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As I discussed above, I believe that this suject ( a musical play) is notable. It has 1) received significant coverage, 2) in reliable sources 3) independent of the subject. Therefore, notability is presumed. I find no definition of "significant" coverage, but this article has three reviews: The Guardian, The New York Times, and CurtainUp, as well as a review of the London cast recording in Playbill; all, I think, are reliable sources. All are independent of the playwright, composers and/or producer. As an important note, this musical play was written by three veterans of the theatre (Weidman, Shire and Maltby) with extensive credits and awards. I am removing the "notability" template.
