Is this for real?
[edit]This article seems suspect--I mean feeding infants honey could kill them! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.206.138.33 (talk) 17:22, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- It’s not feeding, only rubbing the palate with a chewed softened date. Be careful of feeding newborn a date or honey! It’s something that Arab do since ancient times, and the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did it too. I personally got Tahnik by my father and all my brothers and sisters (11 total), and none of us had complications of rubbing a small amount of softened date on the palates right after we born. - Yes. It's for real:
Narrated 'Aisha
A boy was brought to the Prophet to do Tahnik for him, but the boy urinated on him, whereupon the Prophet had water poured on the place of urine. - Sahih Bukhari 7:66:377
