I wish I could edit the title of this page. It's pronounced and written Taglang-la, not Tanglang-la.

We recently cycled over both the Tanglang and Khardung la and recorded on our altimeters (both of us had Suunto watch altimeters) and on cycle-mounted GPS, which stated that Tanglang was higher than Khardung by about 50 metres. Is it a tourist attraction for leh that Kahrdung la is reputeedly in excess of 5,300 metres (as is Tanglang), when in fact we recorded Khardung la as 5,086 metres? This was corroborated by another person on the Khardung la who also had a GPS and recorded the height no higher than 5,100m? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.102.49 (talk) 23:02, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Khardung La is definitely not as low as 5086m and it is higher than Taglang. Pressure based altimeters are not at all accurate. The GPS measurements given here are consistent with SRTM and ASTER GDEM data. Viewfinder (talk) 14:26, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A query

What is a "Gata loop"? Does it mean a hairpin bend? This Youtube video titled "Gata Loop top!" seems to show a road going in a large horseshoe-like bend to get round a deep side valley. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:40, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
