Proposed Changes to Article in light of WSDOT Decision to Keep Station Open
[edit]According to a Seattle Times story of Dec. 21, 2017, linked below, the Washington State Department of Transportation has decided to keep Cascades and Coast Starlight service operating over the old coastal route until Positive Train Control is installed on the Point Defiance Bypass. That effort could take into the middle of 2018. That means this station is effectively remaining in service, until further notice. So I think the headline of this article needs to be changed back to Tacoma station (Amtrak). Then if the station is indeed permanently closed next year, we can restore the headline of Tacoma station (Amtrak, 1984-2018).
I also propose these modifications to the end of the first section:
The station was briefly closed on December 17, 2017, to be replaced the following day by a new Amtrak facility at Tacoma Dome Station, an existing commuter rail and light rail hub a few blocks away. However, the station was reopened within 24 hours when the 2017 Washington train derailment on the new line to the new station caused Amtrak to reroute trains back to the coastal route. That rerouting and this station will remain in service until a safety system known as Positive Train Control can be activated on the inland rail line that serves this station. The completion of the system installation is expected to take place in 2018.
