This seems highly doubtful since punk was barely a thing in May 1976 and never became all that much of a thing in the US. The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac and Peter Frampton and Bob Seger and a zillion lesser-known acts were releasing non-punk rock albums and doing fine commercially and critically.
