Change article title to "Great River (train)"

[edit]

The "The" is unnecessary and is not a part of the actual train's name. Cr4410 (talk) 21:53, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, and also, it has not in any way been confirmed that this train will be called the Great River. Not by Amtrak, and not by the three state DOTs who are supporting the train. The name "Great River" was was mentioned in is one of the few Amtrak documents to use this name (it's cited in the article now). No official sources (official press releases or articles quoting verbatim from Amtrak officials, etc.) have confirmed the name.
What is Wikipedia's policy for changing an article's name when the name is in dispute? I am a very novice editor so do not want to make any sudden changes. I will say that in September of last year, a MnDOT employee working on this project indicated in a meeting of the Great River Rail Commission in Minnesota that there was disagreement about this upcoming train's name, and that they would NOT be using the name Amtrak originated ("Great River").
However, I recognize this is also hearsay, as the recording is not available from what I can see. I can say that Amtrak's most recently published Monthly Performance Report (https://www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/corporate/monthlyperformancereports/2023/Amtrak-Monthly-Performance-Report-December-2023.pdf) no longer uses the name Great River when referring to this train--it now calls it "St. Paul - Chicago." This indicates to me that, ideally, the name of this article should be changed to whatever it was before someone changed the name. However, if the start date for this service is announced in the next few months, which is what was promised by Amtrak/its partners in documents and the media, then this issue will be rendered moot, as the final name will be known at that time. Regardless, I plan to update this page with any newly available information, and I also plan to correct a few timeline-based errors. Planning for this train did not begin in 2015, for example, but instead began in 2012, which (according to this document) is when MnDOT actually requested the study. Much of the groundwork of the study occurred in 2012. The current text of the article also errs in saying that the timeline "slipped" to 2024 from 2023, which is technically not accurate--it reverted to a previously mentioned start date of 2024, which is what was promised in this May 2021 booklet. I know this is minor, but I find it to be very important that the timeline is accurate, because I have learned that many passenger rail advocates and those interested in this project are getting their information from this article, which is the most easily accessible semi-comprehensive source of information available on the project. Change title to Borealis (train)

[edit]

Found an update from All Aboard Minnesota stating that WisDot announced the name of the service to be the Borealis. Proposing a name change. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 21:10, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Source located and move completed based on that. QuincyMorgan (talk) 15:09, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would like to remark that the Borealis appears on Amtrak's schedule now, as evidenced by the screenshot here and by inputting the same departure-arrival locations into Amtrak's website with a departure date following May 21st. Borealis is, for all intents and purposes, the official name of this route. DownAirStairsConditioner (talk) 14:50, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change title to TCMC (train) until service is announced

[edit]

There have been two premature announcements of the train's name, first Great River and recently Borealis, that have both been retracted. To avoid confusion for readers and prevent editors from doing volatile work, I propose, until there is an official update from the operator, the article use the common name TCMC and the title be reverted back to TCMC (train). If any other names are given before then, they should be included in the article. I have opened a technical move request since the page TCMC (train) is a redirect requiring such. Central Corridor (talk) 21:29, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done Page has been moved back to TCMC (train). GTrang (talk) 00:33, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change title back to "Borealis (train)" per Amtrak's service announcement

[edit]

Amtrak has announced that this service will begin no May 21 under the name "Borealis," so this article should revert to that title. Source: Amtrak. 2601:152:C02:77D0:7545:B350:8224:485B (talk) 15:08, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree; now that the name has officially been announced, the name should return to "Borealis (train)". — Nicolás Macri (talk) 18:01, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
