Lost in translation
i dont think pound is the translation for lera (ليرة)! pound is probably the translation of jinieh (جنيه) for example egyption pound, in arabic, we say jineh istarlini (جنيه إسترليني) when we talki about the currency of the UK. and i believe that the currency of syria should be lire, like italian lire, in arabic the currency of italy is called liera italieh (ليرة إيطالية), and the currency of syria is called liera sourieh (ليرة سورية) ie, syrian lire.
It says "pound" on the English side of the banknotes. (Stefan2 09:50, 12 September 2006 (UTC))
