A-flat, not A-flat major
[edit]The published score of the symphony says A-flat, probably because the first movement is in A-flat/G-sharp minor, arguably not a strong selling point I guess. (Absence of a key does not imply "major", especially from around 1880 on. Do we have any quotes by the composer to the contrary?) Schissel | Sound the Note! 18:57, 3 December 2016 (UTC) (Note: Bax's first symphony provides another obvious example of this. Examples by other composers include Charles-Marie Widor's F minor (published just as "en fa") first symphony, Wellesz' C minor first symphony ("in C") - here there's no reason to omit major/minor, since F minor and C minor are perfectly reasonable keys, but the composers felt like it - and that's reason enough!)
The list of isntruments used excludes timpani. Did Bax?Delahays (talk) 14:41, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
