When did it start?
[edit]The rugby club, known on campus as the ‘ Sydney University Football Club’, was founded in 1865 (not 1863 as widely claimed) according to club historian Tom Hickie, in his book entitled A Sense of Union . Hickie’s research reveals that the SUFC, which began playing under the rugby rules, flirted with 'Victorian Rules' in its formative stages but finally resolved to play the English code rather than the Australian game.[1] Ozdaren 11:38, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- Isn't it ironic that both the SUFC and the Sydney UnIversity Boat Club have disputed foundation dates. In the case of the Rowing Club, a charter was created in 1860 but they didn't have a boatshed until 1886 ! Ironic in the sense you'd expect to be able to trust the records.-Sticks66 14:18, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
