Fisheries and Oceans Canada gives a length of 15 km for Sydney River, probably including Blacketts Lake, a reservoir that formed when the upper stretches were overtopped by flooding following construction of the Sysco dam in 1902.[1]: 6 G. C. Hood (talk) 02:40, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Blacketts Lake existed before the dam was built, though it was called by a different name, "Forks Lake", on maps of the period. Church, Bedford, Halifax County, Nova Scotia in 1864.[2] Ken Heaton (talk) 01:40, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
