opening

Would it be relevant to discuss how the opening dialog by Travolta's character being about how terrible Hollywood is with respect to realism and the many, many problems in this film? The movie uses movie physics for its guns, and movie computer technology (techno-babble and random, made up computer technology). DoomBringer 06:20, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

I feel that this is a commentary on the movie by the director. With the unique visual style of the opening sequence that is not present anywhere else in the flick, it seems almost ironic. 143.195.170.90 (talk) 03:40, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

According to Linus Torvalds books there are only about 30 Torvalds in the world, so the name Axl Torvalds has to be at least half a play on Linus' name. --Busterdog 01:04, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I think it's funny that Axl Torvalds speaks German, although he's supposed to be Finnish (although he allegedly has connections to Germany close enough to own a German passport) [1] 惑乱 分からん 21:21, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

A Finn named Axl Torvalds (Rudolf Martin) appears early in the film. His name was at first thought to be a pun on the Linux godfather Linus Torvalds - I really don't think that it qualifies as a 'pun'...tribute at best, maybe. Adonai-aus- 06:31, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Cyberpunk?

Definitely not cyberpunk. Checking against criteria defined ni the cyberpunk article, it fails even on the loosest definitions - it's not set in the future and none of the story takes place in the online world. Unless there is anyone willing to defend the cyberpunk position, lose it.

OK I'm taking it out

I can't find a single reference to the "trademark" Jackman Wheeze anywhere else. I'm removing that blurb unless you can back up your claim that it's his "trademark". It may be funny to some people, but that doesn't mean that it's worth including. Secretagentwang 14:40, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Trivia

Kudos to whoever removed the unsourced and uninteresting trivia section. I do feel however it's worthwhile to include a link to Swordfish (password) somewhere on the article. It shocks me at all the people that consider triva "worthless". Trivia adds a lot to an article; it gives us a section where we can put interesting facts. THe problem ONLY arrises when trivia becomes 5 pages of people saying stuff like "1 hour and 36 minutes into the film, the price of a coffee in the coffee shop is $2.37. If you take the name swordfish, and give each letter a number value (A=1 B=2 etc.), and those up, multiply by 15, take the sqare root, divide by 300, and multiply that by the cubed root of 1700 you get EXACTLY 2.37!!!!!". As long as its actuall trivia though, and only a few interesting things, a trivia section adds a lot.DurotarLord (talk) 14:23, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

How to add sources to that Trivia section? I mean, for example the first fact written there about the hacker speaking German: How to give any source for that? Terrorism

The main goal of the character Gabriel is to steal money to fight terrorism. This movie was released prior to September 11, 2001. The film release on DVD was delayed due to the September 11 terrorist attacks. Few people mention the connection between the movie's focus on terrorism and the terrorist attacks on September 11th. The goal of the character was quite timely considering that the terrorist attacks of September 11th happened soon after the movie's release. Very few citizens of the United States of America considered terrorism to be a substantial threat at that time. The character Gabriel spoke about his goal of protecting the citizens of the U.S.A. and how these same citizens were unaware of the danger that terrorism posed to their lives. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Duxchik (talk • contribs) 17:54, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't really get how we should conect this in the article, or even say the movie predicted correctly a turn on terrorism danger. Actually, Travolta's character has plans to vanish terrorism against USA by killing people, and so scare others with the possibility of dying too. September 11th terrorists used suicide actions so I don't believe this kind of "scare tatics" would work so much on them. 187.80.116.70 (talk) 09:57, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

'Linux operating system'

I know it is Wikipedia policy to refer to the GNU/Linux operating system as 'Linux'. This caused its usual confusion and somebody wrote on this article that Linus Torvalds 'created' the 'Linux operating system'. I changed this to show that he wrote the kernel and I made no mention of the OS. MeatyDoughnut (talk) 14:56, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
