- Ultra Strong Support It is a subsidiary fully owned by Swiss. It uses Swiss aircraft.It does not have a seperate CEO. It has a different ICAO code but it has the same IATA code. Unlike American Eagle at least one of the ICAO and IATA codes is equivalent to that of Swiss International Airlines. It has the same aircraft livery like Swiss. It does not even have a seperate website and not even an own section on Swiss's website. The luggage tags are the same. On the "fleet" section on the Swiss website all the planes are listed as part of Swiss. Swiss European airlines isn't even mentioned once as operating the Jumbolino's.(Avro RJ 85 or 100). Headquarters?
[edit]I have a question, though I'm not sure whether it's worth addressing in the article. The Infobox mentions that the airline's headquarters are in Basel. Isn't this in a big office building at Basel/EuroAirport? If so, then aren't the headquarters technically in France? -- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:43, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Legally, the headquarters are in the City of Basel. I would have to check the shab.ch website to give you exact fact of that.... but now i'm ill... i'll leave that to another volounteer... ha.
- The registered office is a place in the city of Basel, but the actual head office is on the grounds of EuroAirport, which is technically in France, but the Swiss HQ is on the Swiss side and must be accessed from Switzerland. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:11, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Do you think it should be mentioned the SR technics Switzerland GMB should be mentioned as their main contractor? I currently work at a major vendor to EADS, BOEING, PW and many airlines. Boeing 737-800
[edit]In the table listing all aircraft, the Boeing 737-800 is listed with 25 (!) orders. However, I was unable to find any information about this elsewhere. Can someone please confirm that with a credible source? Additionally, the number of passengers seems way off with 189 for an all-business plane. Grouping together Swiss Intl Air Lines and Swiss Global Air Lines fleet
[edit]Surely Swiss International Air Lines' and Swiss Global Air Lines' fleet should be grouped together? It makes more sense as both operate under the same name, livery and use the same website. It is also easier for the reader to read everything in one place. This grouping together would simply involve the addition of Swiss Global Air Lines' fleet on Swiss International Air Lines' fleet list. Csprime (talk) 13:27, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
- As far as I understand, the Swiss Global aircraft are wet-leased to Swiss. WP:ALFC suggests for that situation, that they should not be included on the Swiss International fleet list, however it is not a binding guideline. I personally prefer not grouping them together, but I would accept it if that is the consensus. However I am strongly opposed to include only the Boeing 777 (as it is now); there is no reason to treat the 777 differently than other Swiss Global aircraft. Sure, they are owned by Swiss International, but so aresome of the RJ100 (3 of the remaining 5); what really matters is under which air operator's certificate they are operated, which is Swiss Global's. Flag carrier/National Airline?
[edit]The lede (still) states that Swiss is the "national airline"; the only reference supporting that is a link to a corporate page where they call themselves the "the airline of Switzerland". Until 2017 it said "flag carrier", and referred to an article calling Swiss the "de facto flag carrier". Flag carrier states that it is a "[carrier that] enjoys preferential rights or privileges accorded by the government". I could also assume that "national airline" could mean an airline that is to some degree owned by the government.
As far as I can see, none of this is true. No evidence is given that Swiss has any special privileges accorded by the government, and it is a subsidiary of Lufthansa. Of course Swiss styles themselves as "THE airline of Switzerland" and summon the legacy of old flag carrier Swissair. But this is marketing - nothing of this actually makes them a "national" carrier.
I'd just delete the note, but I'm a bit surprised that it was allowed to stand for years. So I wanted to ask here if there was any particular reason for that. --Averell (talk) 06:18, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- None that I can see, certainly the concept of "flag carrier" (an airline with special rights) is no longer valid and it is probably true of "national airline" as it is not controlled or owned by the government. MilborneOne (talk) 10:30, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- I changed this to "flag carrier" now. The respective article notes that a "flag carrier" may also be an airline with a strong connection to a state (as is the case here), and it does not imply a connection to a state in the way that "national airline" does. Head office location?
[edit]I notice you worked on the German Wiki version of the article extensively. I noticed that signage of SWISS was removed from the Basel Airport office (though the SWISS site indicates an office of the company is still there). I wonder if the primary head office (where the airline executive and top staff reside) has moved to Kloten, as SWISS now lists Kloten first. Are there any newspaper articles in German which document about how Crossair/SWISS has moved its head office from Basel Airport to Kloten?
