end of the Tyne keel?

Is not one major point about this bridge that it made obsolete the Tyne keel, which carried coal to the colliers that shipped it out of the Tyne to the various markets in which it was sold? The ability to load coal directly into colliers must have been a huge cost saving for the transport of coal. Can no expert on the Tyne find a good source to expand on this point?
