Content about fishing, and a body found in the lake
[edit]@Guilderbell: You continue to edit war through your IPs in order to:
- Add content about fishing in Swan Lake (including a personal photo), and content about a dead body found in the lake. Please note that this article is about the settlement called "Swan Lake", not about the lake by the same name.
- Change the section heading "arts and culture" (per WP:USCITIES) to "landmarks".
Please discuss rather than edit war. Magnolia677 (talk) 16:33, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Magnolia,
- I see you want to finally discuss. The Murder of Walter Sage is very important to Swan Lake's history. As a local from the community it is still talked about almost 90 years later. It has been mentioned twice on the page regarding the mobsters Murder Inc. here on Wikipedia. Has been cited in newspaper articles and has fictionally been portrayed in a film from 1960. Now I have cited 5 different pieces of media to help you with your research from various news articles, documentaries etc... and I am sorry if that is not good enough but this wasn't just some random murder. He was murdered by famous mobsters and the spectacle of how he was murdered resonated with newspapers and history. If you think being chained to a rock and tied to a slot machine after being stabbed 32 times and then floating up in front of a bunch of tourists isn't notable then I am not sure what is? Famous mobsters such as Pittsburgh Phil and others were involved in this and this piece of mobster history is part of the town. I am sorry if you feel that I have gone to war with you but I am a local to the area and felt this story needs to be mentioned.
- Also, there were some nice pictures of the lake and the remaining hotel that is here that I took photos of and the Borscht Belt sign in the park in town. I wish you would put those back. The Fire Department especially considering how much they do for the community here.
- As far as fishing goes, thats the culture around this lake. People are always fishing. The lake has an ice fishing tournament annually and it is used year round. I simply highlighted the type of fish that are in the lake as its a popular destination in the catskills. You can pretty much ride around any time of day and someone is fishing.
- Please reconsider your edits. I don't know if you are local or not to our community but I think you are erasing a part of our culture and our history by removing fishing, the murder, the firehouse and the hotel. Guilderbell (talk) 17:29, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Well the town is called Swan Lake and the lake in the town is Swan Lake. If the murder happened in the lake and if fishing happens in the lake then how do we document this? Guilderbell (talk) 17:31, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- For reference you will see the town and the lake are hand in hand. If you would take a look at the map you will see what I am talking about. If a body is dumped into Swan Lake in Swan Lake, NY would that help you feel better with how it is written?

- Also,
- I saw that someone previously edited some of the history of the town. That information they cited was from the Town of Liberty's historians and I provided a link to that towns page. The Borscht Belt Project is another item that was cited. I simply found those references and put those in there. I hope that you will keep that information because its useful for people who live here. Guilderbell (talk) 17:44, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
Walter Sage Murder
[edit]Can you explain to me how a famous murder from 1937 by famous gangsters is not historical? Magnolia 677 I’m talking to you cause you seriously are not getting it. Also our fishing is our culture in the Catskills and any person who might be interested in Swan lakes ecology might wish to read this. It’s not a brochure it’s our culture.
