Restart
[edit]I have restarted the article, as the original article was bloated with redundancy and factual inaccuracies. I would like to proceed with a new article that accurately captures the following:
1. Borders. "A geographic approximation of its borders would be K Street to the north, G Street to the south, 1st Street NW to the west, and 2nd Street NE to the east." is a reasonable representation. Will try and provide references to confirm. 2. Inhabitants. Irish, yes. Until the 1900s when the construction of Union Station brought in other immigrants (for example, Italian stone workers). When did the Irish arrive? Why did they settle in that particular location? 3. Culture. It seems the greatest irony about Swampoodle is that the rowdy Irish were being patrolled by an Irish police force. 4. Annotated history. Not just "the Irish showed up when the potatoes went bad". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.250.151.50 (talk) 02:39, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Map Image Mistake?
[edit]Seems like the wrong image has been affixed, since the article says the southern border is G Street and the shaded region is all south of Massachusetts. Czrisher (talk) 14:27, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
It is requested that a map or maps be included in this article to improve its quality. Wikipedians in Washington, D.C. may be able to help! |
This article needs a detailed map of the neighborhood for easy location. There are several different boundaries. They have been listed in the article along with the sources. Union Station was not there when the neighborhood was active but it was also what killed it so it could be interesting to do an overlay of that or a second map showing what space it took. The DC map with a dot does not really serve the purpose. User:blazingliberty
Irish Bar and Restaurant Just Southwest of Union Station
[edit]I'm trying to remember it's name. It was either on Pennsylvania Avenue or just off of it. You could almost see the capital building in the distance from there, if you rounded the corner. I wonder if it was a remnant of Swampoodle, or if it came in later.
There are two Irish Bars n the area you describe. They are "The Dubliner" and "The Irish Times". Both would have come much after Swampoodle ceased to be. Cliffswallow-vaulting (talk) 03:09, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
