Pronunciation

[edit]

The pronunciation given uses the respelling template, but does not use the standard respellings (e.g. what does <ai> mean?), so it doesn't help much. His name in Ukrainian is Святослав Михайлюк. My guess for Ukrainian IPA is [svʲatɔslav mɪxajlʲuk], but I'm not sure about stress or voicing assimilation in the <sv> cluster. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 01:55, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stress is on the last syllable, and there's no voicing assimilation - it is pronounced [sʋjɑtoˈslɑw mɪxɑjˈlʲuk], with two approximants: the first one is labiodental, the second labiovelar. Peter238 (talk) 12:20, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The only trouble is that some of these symbols <ʋ o w> don't appear on Help:IPA for Ukrainian; <v ɔ> do instead. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 14:27, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
True. I adjusted the transcription. Peter238 (talk) 14:36, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sviatoslav MykhailiukSvi Mykhailiuk – He is being listed as Svi on the Lakers roster. Most articles after him being drafted refer to him as "Svi" instead Sviatoslav. Most articles calling him by his full name are previewing the draft and articles from his time at Kansas. I figured we should discuss this before just moving it. Not to mention it would be easier for people because I doubt very many people can spell "Sviatoslav" without checking it lol. Rockchalk717 21:35, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Basketball reference profile you linked is for his college profile when he was listed as Sviatoslav. But his NBA Profile as well as Lakers roster lists as Svi. The ESPN profile you linked as well his NBA basketball reference profile don't even list a number meaning they are out of date. Not mention recent news articles (1 2 3 4 5) all refer to him as Svi. We have from what I can see is sufficient recent evidence supporting a WP:COMMONNAME of Svi.--Rockchalk717 03:33, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Patronymic "Iurriovych"

[edit]

This article already cites that Mykhailiuk's father's given name is Iurri. As such, his patronym would be "Iurriovych." There's no question about this. Every single person born in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus is legally given a patronym at birth, so it's just common knowledge that the official patronym of a man whose father's name is Gennady must be "Gennadyevich," meaning "son of Gennady," or that the patronym of a woman whose father's name is Konstiantyn must be "Konstiantynivna," meaning "daughter of Konstiantyn." Thus, I advise adding a Slavic patronymic box to this article to clarify his full Ukrainian name. 2605:6000:1713:4CE2:381B:F255:86F1:C41F (talk) 00:49, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
