1971-1972

[edit]

There is a dispute as to the true 1971-1972 Cup Winner. The Schreiber Northstars, winners of the NWOJHL League defeated the Soo Indians of the Northern League. The Markham Waxers refused to play the winners and many consider Schreiber, a town of 1700 people, the true champion or co-champion at the least. The provincial government recognized The Schreiber team by awarding them recognition awards as Provincial Champions. It would be fitting for the OHA to recognize the contribution of Northern Ontario teams. Contact me at kspadoni(at)shaw(dot)ca for details. Thank you.

Please sign your comments. That is an interesting tidbit you have left us. I've often wondered about HNO and NOHA champions and how they never competed against the OHA Sutherland Cup champions. I am trying to find history on the Thunder Bay Jr. A and Jr. B leagues as well as the NOHA Jr. B leagues... if you have the time, please write me on my talk page or here and maybe consider joining the Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey if you are interested... we need more Ontario input... so far it is me and like 3 other guys. One guy won't touch below Major Jr. and the other two kinda disappear for long lengths of time...
I would appreciate your help... for your region, check these out: Superior International Junior Hockey League, Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League, North of Superior Junior B Hockey League, Hockey Northwestern Ontario... and the various team pages that come with these...
