UK-specific

About this UK-specific paragraph...

In the UK, the term "ethical fashion" was coined by the founding of the Ethical Fashion Forum in 2005. Google records searches beginning in September 2005[1], and overtaking more specific, certifiable phrases like "organic", "fair trade", "fur-free", "vegan", or "made in a democracy". Fur sales have since decreased and large companies such as Gucci in 2017/18 have declared they will no longer use fur in collections..[2] Many more are now following the lead of Stella McCartney and becoming "Fur Free" and "Vegan for the planet" specifically using natural materials rather than synthetic petroleum chemical-based leathers which can now be produced in a variety of bio plant-based alternatives such as Vegea,[3], and other plant-based materials as featured on this report from Eco-Age in 2020.[4] The phrase is often followed in the next breath or the same page by the phrase "sustainable fashion", for example on the web sites of organisations like Ethical Fashion Forum, a designer and supplier platform and lobby group established in 2005 by Sustainable Fashion Pioneers, Safia Minney CEO of People Tree est 1995, Sarah Ratty CEO Conscious Earthwear est 1992, Judith Condor Vidal CEO Trading for Development est 2004, Alanna McAspurn and Tamsin Lejeune CEO of Ethical Fashion Forum (now known as The Common Objective). Alanna McAspurn quoted recently on Asquith London, [5] "Our vision was to create a platform for brands and show that beautiful clothing can be ethical"

Since then more terms have become widespread including "Sustainable Fashion" and Conscious Fashion" a term first coined by Sarah Ratty FRSA in 1992 with the pioneer brand Conscious Earthwear which was shown in the 1995 Street-style Exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1995 and again in the highly influential Fashion Exhibition, "Fashioned From Nature" in 2018 - 2019 at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. An exhibition which showed the history of Ethical, Sustainable, Fairtrade, Organic, Vegan, Fashion from the late 1800's to present day.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). Designers represented in the exhibition included Vivienne Westwood,[6], Stella McCartney,[7], Sarah Ratty's Conscious Earthwear,[8], Alexander McQueen,[9], Katherine Hamnett,[10], Helen Storey,[11], Jean-Paul Gaultier and future Fashion Fabrications including latest development work from Bolt Fabrics,[12], Book Fashioned From Nature written by Curator Edwina Ehrman, available here.[13] Since the 2011 Rana Plaza disaster Fashion Revolution,,[14] co-founded by Orsola de Castro and Carrie Somers with Policy Director Sarah Ditty formerly of Ethical Fashion Forum, has been using the terms Sustainable fashion a,d — Preceding unsigned comment added by 8.41.197.223 (talk) 19:42, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Unit 2 Peer Review

The plan for improving the article looks good and complete. The introduction addition of the draft is a great complement to what's already written in the article, as adding the environmental impacts is necessary to have a better overview of the topic. The H&M is example is a good addition to the article as it gives better understanding of the topic and help readers see how this is impacting the real world. The language used is neutral and unbiased. The sources look good and reliable. I think you should keep working on adding the other sections you mentioned in your plan as it makes the article more complete and up to date. Adding the consumer section and updating the future outlook with examples from recent years will make the article more developed, as learning what the consumer do post purchase is key to have a better grasp of the topic, as well as learning how sustainable fashion will be managed in the future.Danielazea (talk) 19:40, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Fast Fashion Paragraph

I think that the sentence "The 2012 book Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion by journalist Elizabeth L. Cline gives a clear introduction to the rise of disposable consumption of fashion and its impacts on the planet, the economy, and consumer relationships with clothing." should be removed from this section of the article. It isn't mentioned in the rest of the section or in the article so I don't think it is very useful. Ndani06 (talk) 01:04, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
