bibliography & sources needed

[edit]

I think that the following paragraph in bold must have references to the source of its content. Specially that there is no such reference in Arrian's "The Anabasis of Alexander". I think it is an important piece of information that needs to be supported with its sources. Without a source – evidence this paragraph is just a personal opinion of the author. On the contrary, in Arrian's "The Anabasis of Alexander" is written that the hetairoi were very satisfied with these marriages (The Anabasis of Alexander 7.4.7) (found here: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Anabasis_of_Alexander/Book_VII/Chapter_IV ), (Hetairoi is Greek word for the Companions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Companion_cavalry ) :

"What the Macedonians thought of these marriages is evident from the fact that the nobles all divorced their wives after Alexander's death, except Hephaestion, who died before Alexander, and Seleucus. So in spite of Alexander's precedent, the Macedonians were no more inclined to share equally with the Persians than before"

@Orphiwn: This topic is not in my area of expertise. The following three sources may offer further information for review and discussion:
  • Turn, W. W.(1948) in Worthingham, ed. (2003), "The Susa Wedding", Alexander the Great : a reader, p. 202, Little came of it, for many of the bridegrooms were soon to die, and many others repudiated their Asiatic wives after Alexander's death; Seleucus...was an honourable and politic exception. See page 200 in the same source.
  • Badian, E. (1958). "Alexander the Great and the Unity of Mankind". Historia: Zeitschrift für Alte Geschichte. 7 (4): 425–444. ISSN 0018-2311.
  • Bosworth, A. B. (1980). "Alexander and the Iranians". The Journal of Hellenic Studies. 100: 1–21. doi:10.2307/630729. ISSN 0075-4269. In the hands of Turn, it developed into the idea of all subjects.
Please feel free to review and comment on how the text should be re-written. - DutchTreat (talk) 22:33, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Aftermath / Wrong information?

[edit]

What the Macedonians thought of these marriages is evident from the fact that the nobles all divorced their wives after Alexander's death, except Hephaestion, who died before Alexander, and Seleucus. So in spite of Alexander's precedent, the Macedonians were no more inclined to share equally with the Persians than before.[citation needed]
