Survivor: Maldives

is this for real?

Needs a reliable source. Shapiros10 contact meMy work 13:03, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
It's not true. [1] -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 06:56, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
They don't even announce the locale until the Finale of the preceeding series, so I don't know where you got this.64.252.133.190 (talk) 00:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Location

Alton Desiree, whose name was mentioned at the end of last night's episode drowned in Brazil working for Survivor production. I think it's pretty safe to say the location is somewhere Brazil. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.122.232.76 (talk) 00:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

I removed this, because although it is unfortunate, it is not an official announcement. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 01:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, it's true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.122.232.76 (talk) 01:45, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

So it would seem. But maybe they'll change the location because of this. It hasn't been confirmed by CBS. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 01:48, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

A note to 'The Dark Lord Trombonator': I don't know who died and made you the Survivor Wiki Nazi, but you're being downright foolish by consistently removing information regarding Survivor 18 being filmed in Brazil (if that is indeed what you're doing). Although the title may or may not be 'Survivor Brazil', the fact remains that it's important information that Survivor 18 WILL take place in Brazil, that a crew member DID pass away during production, and there's not a shot in hell that the season will be somehow cancelled or the location changed (this almost certainly would have been mentioned in the media). The entire purpose of Wikipedia is to be the #1 source for reliable information online, and we all appreciate your contributions to make that happen (whatever those contributions may be). That said, it's a shame that people should have to turn AWAY from the previously mentioned source of information in order to FIND that information. Please stop being stubborn. I'm about to edit the page for Survivor 18 to include information regarding the death of Alton Desiree, and that unofficial sources seem to confirm that Survivor's 18th season will take place in the Tocantins region of southern Brazil. I will not be posting information that is untrue or exaggerated, and I will do my absolute best to provide links or sources when possible. If I return to this page to find that the information has been removed, I will promptly repost it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.226.8.80 (talk) 06:30, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Information has to be accurate and verifiable from reliable source. The location and death of a crew member is rumor and not sourced to any reliable source. --MASEM 06:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

The information has been verified by several news sources. Jeff Probst himself has commented on the incident, and the first episode of Survivor Gabon is dedicated to the memory of Alton Desiree. If that's not reliable, I really don't know what is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.226.8.80 (talk) 06:58, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

If you provide the correct sources, it will stay. If you don't, it will be removed. So if you have a link from a reliable source where Jeff comments on Alton Desiree and/or the filming being done in Brazil, feel free to add it. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:32, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Survivor 18

Someone added an "unsourced" information stating that the next season of survivor will take place in "Whit Island". I call vandalism on this one

Actually, they called it "White Island", but spelled it wrong in a couple places. These changes have been reverted. Plastikspork (talk) 04:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Premiere date

The premiere date of Survivor 18 will be on February 12, 2009.

How about the interview on Ryan Seacrests' show???? PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING (AND LISTEN TO THE MP3 ) BEFORE GETTING SMART!

The source that you wanted is right there...Why wait??? Loud and Wrong are we??? I have a right here too...I have a source...I added the info...Done. Its as simple as that scorpion.
reality blurred is not a reliable source, and in his interview, Probst just says Brazil, he does not give the name, thus it does not cover everything, so it's not useable. -- Scorpion0422 00:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok Fine. But I'm adding the FACT this season will be shot a Brazil.... Happy??

Tribe Names

They can clearly be seen as the preview as Jalapao and Timbira. What other source do you need? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.122.232.106 (talk) 08:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Actually, the purple tribe has been confirmed as Timbira (a local tribe), however the red tribe has only been revealed to have the letters 'APA' in their name. Jalapao is a possibility because it too is a local tribe name, however Apari is another local tribe, so it could be either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.209.32.18 (talk) 00:07, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

There was also a shape of a letter under the 'APA' which could be an 'R' or a 'D' so Apari is likely--67.162.92.88 (talk) 21:24, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Apari maybe the name of the merged tribe--67.162.92.88 (talk) 23:33, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Discussion of Contestant List

The list of contestants has been repeatedly added and reverted, can we discuss whether this counts as a reliable source before adding again? Plastikspork (talk) 16:45, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, because TV Guide is going to create a completely fake cast list just for kicks. Right. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.192.50.221 (talk) 17:27, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't know why it's being removed if the TV Guide source is there. The only unusual aspect is that CBS usually is the first to announce these, but maybe they're a week behind this year, I don't know. --MASEM 17:34, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, the issue I do have is that we don't link to pictures but that's easily fixed. --MASEM 17:36, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

FYI, the pictures clearly show "Jalapao" lacking the tilde over the "a." The official tribe name is "Jalapao,", not "Jalapão. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.192.50.221 (talk) 17:44, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

The colors are no where near accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.215.113.88 (talk) 19:07, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

So let me get this clear. CBS hasn't released a cast list yet but TV guide did? Interesting. Let me write something up and whoever found it please reference it. ChaosMaster16 (talk) 00:02, 16 January 2009 (UTC)ChaosMaster16
Nevermind. I have fixed the article. Of course we can remove the senteces before the cast list after the first episode, as well as the quote (or maybe not, I like it :P). ChaosMaster16 (talk) 00:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)ChaosMaster16

Ben Wade

Has a wikipedia article; Benjamin James Wade. Why no link? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.169.188.124 (talk) 22:33, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Because the article was newly created. Link added, though the article is kind of a mess. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 23:41, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Ratings Section

Can we have a discussion about the inclusion of a ratings section in this (and other) articles? There is a rather informative FAQ about ratings on the FutonCritic website.[2] There seems to be issues about different sources reporting different numbers. More troubling is the statement at the bottom of the "key section" (on the right):

Nielsen Media Research forbids us from displaying ratings in chart form (beyond the top 20 in the "Weekly" section) or maintaining regular archives beyond the current week. It sucks, we know

— FutonCritic FAQ

Doesn't it seem strange that this information always comes from second-hand sources on blogs? If you check do a search on the Nielsen Media website, you will find a copyright notice[3], which suggests that they own the numbers. Comments? Plastikspork (talk) 01:10, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

But why can't we use their numbers unless we site their website/webpage? Thats odd... ChaosMaster16 (talk) 12:44, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Right. If I'm reading it correctly, they want us to ask permission to use their numbers. The whole things seems problematic. This has to have been discussed before? Plastikspork (talk) 13:50, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Tribe Colors

Timbira is not black -_- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.49.83.33 (talk) 23:27, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, if you do look at the videos on CBS, Timbira is indeed black. There are some shots of the tribe buffs on the contestants up close. The tribe flag is black and the challenge props are also black. Survivorfreak (talk) 08:19, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
I watched the video and it looks like a very dark purple/blue. However, lighting and camera filters can do strange things to colors. We will know the true color soon enough. Plastikspork (talk) 16:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, like I said, the challenge props were black and has been confirmed on the CBS store releasing the black buff. Survivorfreak (talk) 12:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

I think it's harder to read than the white-on-black/black-on-red style that's currently in use. -- BullWikiWinkle 17:01, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree. Let's just leave it white lettering and black lettering as appropriate. Adding new colors for the lettering will just confuse things since the colors of the lettering do not have any connection to the tribe colors. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 19:51, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree as well. The WP:MOS also warns against the use of colors that might hinder reading by the visually challenged (in addition to the use of color as the sole method to convey meaning). Plastikspork (talk) 20:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

There is nothing wrong with the color scheme as we have been using it, and as Gogo said there is no connection between the letters and tribe colors. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 22:40, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, the colors Dirk used for the letters are the colors of the letters on the tribe flags. Observe on the homepage: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor/ I see nothing wrong with using Dirk's suggestion. 98.226.21.179 (talk) 23:55, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I see... well that changes things slightly. I now have no preference. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 04:25, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Just wondering if this can be used as a source for the merged tribe colour: http://www.survivorfever.net/images18/s18_merge_buff.jpg Survivorfreak (talk) 04:08, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Not really since it is unknown to which color that applies to. Going back to the original suggestion on color change, I still don't like changing the lettering from the white/black. The tribe base color has always been important, but the lettering coloring not so much. Instead of having an eye-sore, inducing rainbow of colors, I still say just use the base colors. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:27, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
i thought the merge color is pink.......... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.49.83.33 (talk) 17:55, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I think it would be easier to read the Jalapao information if the text there was white also. Any thoughts? I might just go ahead and change it. -- bmitchelfTF 01:22, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I agree that maiking the text match each tribe's sub-colours (yellow for Jalapao, and blue for Timbira - the colours used for challenge props, and tribe flags in conjuction to their main colour) is a bit over the top. However, I think these facts should be incoporated in the article somewhere, any thoughts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.209.32.18 (talk) 06:10, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

As stated in this conversation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Gogo_Dodo/Archive_13#Survivor_Tocantins_Tribe_Colors.3F, Timbira was definitely not black (close to black, but still not). Since the colors suggested in the above conversation was picked from the CBS Buff pictures, will it be okay to use them on the article?

Number of Votes

After the first episode, the number of votes that was reported was inaccurate. It states Carolina receieved 7 votes, and Sandy receieved 1. However, after Sandy receieved her vote and Carolina receieved 5, no more votes were counted since it was impossible for Sandy to recieve enough votes to tie Carolina. If some votes were not revealed, we cannot guess as to who the remaining votes may have been for. Please double check before reporting vote counts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.60.16.198 (talk) 02:03, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

In a situation when only two names come up in the vote and the number of votes read for a castaway is more than half of the number of tribe members present in Tribal Council, it is assumed that the unread votes are for that castaway and that count is confirmed at the closing credits while the one voted is having his/her final words. You should be the one checking. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 04:01, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

All of the votes were shown during castaway's final words and credits as is common practice with Survivor. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:21, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Possible Merge Name?

Just out of curiosity, why is there a yellow tribe named Manbooke (I think that's what it said) on this page? Even if that happens to be the confirmed merged tribe name or some newly-made tribe, why put it in now? I mean, shouldn't there be some wait until, I dunno, the merge? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.92.102.241 (talk) 04:26, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. It has been added to the table. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:36, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Who said it?

Hey, a simple question.

Shouldn't you put the names of the ones who said the episode titles? The Amazing Race articles are doing it.--Ja 1207 (talk) 08:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Consensus during Survivor: China was to not include such trivia. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:40, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Why not include trivia?--Ja 1207 (talk) 08:23, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Because trivia is discouraged. Who was the source of the episode title is not relevant to the outcome of the game, so is entirely trivia. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:26, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I totally agree. In fact, I think it should be removed from the amazing race articles too. Syjytg (talk) 08:45, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh No, Don't Remove It From The Amazing Race. (Gonzalochileno (talk) 16:40, 21 February 2009 (UTC))

Exile Switch column

An anonymous IP has made changes to The Game table for column for the potential switch in tribes afforded to the lucky castaway on Exile Island. I removed the column because it hasn't come into play yet and I think should it come into play, a better presentation could be done. Thoughts? -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:56, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

I agree. There is no need to get ahead of ourselves anticipating future events. Plastikspork (talk) 18:07, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Contestants in alphabetical order

I think the game section would be fix in alphabetical order by last name according to Wikipedia policy.

But the contestants are known primarily by their first names within the show. The voting history also works by first name, so wouldn't it be good to be consistent by always listing by first name/nickname? When did Joe leave?

Didn't Joe participate in the immunity challenge on day 21? Tyson won that challenge - it was when they had to hold onto a pole for as long as possible. Afterwards Joe was examined by Survivor Medical, and helicoptered out. Probst then came and told the remaining contestants that there would be no tribal council that night. Tyson's immunity win was rendered moot. So Joe was removed on day 21, not day 20. Not trying to be a bother, I really appreciate the great upkeep of this page. Thanks. --Jkalderash (talk) 21:39, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

The Immunity Challenge was held on day 20. If you watch the episode again on the CBS website, you can verify that it was day 20. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:47, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Weird, it seems like there's a missing day. The episode does indeed indicate that the immunity challenge took place on Day 20, but the next episode starts the night of day 21. Oh well, thanks for answering my question. --Jkalderash (talk) 00:18, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Episode Numbers

We are, of course. :-) But seriously, various editors came to the consensus a few seasons back that the Recap episode would not be counted on the Wikipedia articles. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 02:40, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Font color for red background

On the Survivor: Africa page, someone changed the font color to white for every red cell in a table. I reverted the changes and then they were quickly added back in. On to the question...

For the sake of readability, what is the preferred format? White on red or black on red? For reference, the following seasons that have/had a red tribe currently use white on red: Survivor: Africa, Survivor: All-Stars, Survivor: Vanuatu, Survivor: Cook Islands, & Survivor: China ; black on red is used for Survivor: The Amazon & Survivor: Tocantins. Granted, China & Tocantins use a darker red (#c80815, & #c80a0a, respectively), but are close enough to be included in this discussion. I would like to get a consensus for what to use and use it consistently across Survivor articles. My suggestion is black on red.

China white on red black on red
Tocantins white on red black on red
All Others white on red black on red

-- BullWikiWinkle 00:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

My vote is the following
Africa Vanuatu Cook Islands All-Stars Amazon China Tocantins
black black black or white black or white black or white white white
The basically reasoning to go with white for the darker reds, and black if the rest of the text is black. In the case that the text is half-and-half black-and-white, I am indifferent. Plastikspork (talk) 00:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe it's just my monitor, but except for China & Tocantins, the white on red seems hard to read. -- BullWikiWinkle 00:09, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
i still agree on yellow font.. diRk dARyL 09:52, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I thought about this a while ago. And by a while ago, I mean last year :P I don't really mind, as long as they match on the page. Having one tribe with white letters and one tribe with black letters looks a bit off. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 00:06, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Ponderosa video clips

Why do Survivor articles doesn't have infos/section about Ponderosa, as The Amazing Race has an Elimination Station section? They are both special clips available only on the official website.diRk dARyL 09:59, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Amazing Race articles appear to be full of cruftiness that the Survivor editing community at large has rejected (such as quote attributions for episode titles). Events that take place at Ponderosa have nothing to do with the game or gameplay and therefore are not closely related enough to the topic of this article to be included. -- BullWikiWinkle 22:41, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll try this again. The Ponderosa clips have a lot to do with the game. Do you think the jury does not talk to each other and influence how people vote? See the Survivor Samoa clips for why Russell lost the game. 70.72.83.190 (talk) 04:13, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

the article states that the jug with the hidden immunity idol also had an option to switch tribes... i don't remember that! i mean it didn't happen, or at least it wasn't ever mentioned in the show itself. where did this come from, or is this just a plain lie? 98.110.157.7 (talk) 03:01, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I didn't make it up so it's not a lie. The tribe switch was mentioned at the first Exile Island, but not mentioned much beyond that since my guess is that nobody was interested. If you're looking for verification, see the CBS episode 2 recap: "The second note says that he has the option to switch tribes, if he wishes, at the end of his stay on Exile." -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:23, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

New tribe colors

Hi. I really don't think Timbira's tribe color is plain black. It's more of a dark gray. I used OS X Color Picker and found this color   for Timbira. For Jalapao, I found  . Lastly, for Forza, I don't think there's much of a difference, but I got  . Consensus anyone for changing the colors?

It would look like this:
  Timbira
  Jalapao
  Forza

And as a table:

Timbira
Jalapao
Forza

I really think the current colors are too bright and unmatching (if that's even a word). They just don't look good together in my opinion. But please, what do you all think? —Untitledmind72 (talk) 21:17, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for starting the discussion. I don't have a strong opinion either way. I am mostly concerned with making sure there is sufficient contrast between the font color and the background color. This choice does appear to have good contrast. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:35, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your opinion. I am going to change the colors on Survivor: Tocantins right now. If anyone has a problem with the new colors, feel free to comment on this discussion to change them. —Untitledmind72 (talk) 22:04, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I am the anonymous user who posted the last comment in the section above titled "Tribe Colors".
I felt the exact same way as you did, however I am still not sure on whether the colors I gave was more accurate than the ones offered in this section. The colors I pick was from the original Buff design pictures on CBSstore.com, therefore I believe it would work as a more accurate choice, since the same method was adopted while deciding Samoa's tribe colors. 72.10.114.92 (talk) 03:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I used OS X Color Picker too, but why are the letters for Jalapao yellow in your example on my talk page and Timbira's blue? —Untitledmind72 (talk) 21:06, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Only because in the actual show, yellow and blue were actually used as supplementary colors to the tribes - on the flags, on the challenge props, and such. See the discussions in the "Tribe Colors" section in this vary page. 98.221.250.136 (talk) 22:50, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
In Survivor: Samoa, the colors used were only the main tribe colors—purple, yellow, and blue—so I vote the Survivor: Tocantins colors be the same. Plus, as another user said in the "Tribe colors" discussion on this very page, it is too hard to read with the two colors. As in the other seasons, the background colors have been the actual tribe colors and the font be white (unless the tribe be too bright to read). —Untitledmind72 (talk) 23:55, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Proposed colour change

Imo, the current colours used for Jalapao and Forza are much duller than the colour of the actual buffs. (Over 39 days, they do get dirty and lose their original brightness). The colours I'm proposing are close to the original colours of the buffs:

Current Suggested1 Suggested2
Timbira Timbira
(#302E2C)
Timbira
(#252525)
Jalapao Jalapao
(#B31D05)
Jalapao
(#D80000)
Jalapao
(#CF1805)
Forza Forza
(#36A339)
Forza
(#5DBC51)
Forza
(#5DCE5D)

Fine with me. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:15, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree with the old colors—they look as though they've hot and sweaty for 39 days. I took a look at the Tocantins episodes and skimmed through them to find short clips of the buffs. I also looked online for pictures, and it seems that neither of our colors are correct. The red has an orange tint in it and black has a blueish tint in it, while the green is quite pale. My suggestions are in the Suggested2 column (yours are in Suggested1). Hope these look good. —Untitledmind72 (let's talk + contribs) 22:26, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Also fine with me. The white font looks more consistent, although I don't know if it actually has better contrast (probably about the same). Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:45, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Your suggestions are also fine by me. While having the white font for all three tribes looks consistent, black font would be alot easier to read on the Forza green imo. Here's a comparison:

Forza
(White font)
Forza
(Black font)

--Meaghan :) 23:06, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I made a table with the proposed colors at User:Untitledmind72/Tocantins. One section is the Forza colors with a white font color, the other is the Forza colors with a black font color. It's pretty weird to me, but I feel that a black font color "degrades from the aesthetics of the table". Thoughts? Comments? Other miscellaneous questions? —Untitledmind72 (let's talk + contribs) 23:38, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
To me, black font is easier to read, but it does degrade from the aesthetics of the table. This suggestion may sound unusual, but how about making the Forza text a dark-grey font (#252525) - the same colour as the Timbira background? I think it's somewhat of a happy medium. I created a version comparing the black font and the dark-grey font at User:Meaghan/Sandbox. Thoughts? --Meaghan :) 02:09, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Oddly enough, when I compare the white text and the black text in the Forza colors, the green with white looks brighter...maybe happier than the green with black. It's quite interesting. The gray font color does look better, though...it still looks odd to me. I think we should get some other people in this discussion as it seems it's a conversation between you and me. —Untitledmind72 (let's talk + contribs) 23:34, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
