Improved title
[edit]Is there anyone out there who can change the title to "Supra Footwear"? What do others think? Thanks. Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 04:46, 19 December 2014 (UTC) Yes, Supra Footwear is the official brand name-- Steve Harden (Supra Footwear Brand President) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.142.33.194 (talk) 22:52, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
Requested move 17 May 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved to Supra (footwear brand). (The fate of the current title was not explicitly discussed here, but since there's agreement that it's ambiguous, it seems a reasonable default is to redirect to the disambiguation page.) Supra (brand) → Supra Footwear – per comment on Talk:Supra (brand), and resolve ambiguity with Supra, Inc. 162 etc. (talk) 17:03, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

- Anthony Appleyard, thank you. Your ping didn't arrive, I'm not sure why. Presumably 162 etc. didn't get the ping either. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 10:08, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Supra (brand) (currently a redirect to Supra) → Supra Footwear (currently a redirect instead to Supra (footwear brand)) – per comment on Talk:Supra (brand), and resolve ambiguity with Supra, Inc. 162 etc. (talk) 17:03, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- 162 etc., am I the only one who was thinking of the Toyota Supra when seeing the article title? Anyways, I'm not so sure. The brand on the shoes is "Supra" and while the website domain was "suprafootwear.com" (presumably because supra.com is owned by Diamond Multimedia for their Supra line of 56K PCI modems.. not sure they sell enough of those to justify the domain renewal fee, and yes I know domains are like a few bucks a year) but everywhere on the website it's either "Supra" or "suprafootwear.com", like in the Terms and Conditions. I'd suggest moving it to Supra (footwear) instead per WP:COMMONNAME. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:17, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Note that their Facebook/Insta/Twitter/Youtube were all at @suprafootwear. I believe my original suggestion is the better choice per WP:NATURAL, although (footwear) is better than (brand). 162 etc. (talk) 19:34, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- 162 etc., @supra on Twitter was registered in 2007 (probably before the footwear brand realized Twitter exists) and Supra on Facebook is a German electronics store, but I can't see when they joined Facebook. (the account has been active since at least 2011) So it makes sense to pick a handle that isn't already taken everywhere and can be easily usurped if it is taken. (they couldn't usurp "supra", but they likely could usurp "suprafootwear") On the website I see "Supra x Disney's Beauty and the Beast", "WINDSOR JAMES IS ROLLING WITH SUPRA", "SUPRA is pleased to officially welcome long time friend and pro skateboarder Windsor James", "Follow SUPRA", on Facebook "SUPRA is an independent footwear innovator", "MAKAVELIC has teamed up with Supra to release". Also note that "@suprafootwear" doesn't include a space. If you look up the trademark for "Supra Footwear" (3559015) on https://tmsearch.uspto.gov/ you'll find that it was cancelled on August 7, 2015, two months after K-Swiss acquired Supra. Another trademark (5200154) from K-Swiss for just "Supra" remains live. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 21:30, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

- Since this isn't really getting any discussion, I'll make it easy and Support a move to Supra (footwear). 162 etc. (talk) 18:56, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- 162 etc., I've taken a look at WP:TITLE. It's not really conclusive, but the term in parenthesis generally describes what the article subject is. Based on that, I suspect Supra (footwear brand) would be even better. The current title is ambiguous as it could (as stated) equally refer to Supra, Inc. and may get confused with the Toyota Supra as brands and models can easily be confused while I think the car is more widely known. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 03:40, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- No objection. A look at Category:Shoe companies of the United States shows that there is no real standard in place. The most common seems to be (company), but that doesn't work here. 162 etc. (talk) 05:35, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
