Main page appearance

[edit]

This is to let people know that this article has been scheduled as today's featured article for December 18, 2019, and specifically paging the FAC nominator(s), Mike Christie. It would be good if someone checked that the article needs no amendments. The main page blurb text can be viewed and edited at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 18, 2019.—Wehwalt (talk) 09:42, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit re Pohl's use of a pseudonym

[edit]

Gog the Mild: re this edit, Pohl's use of a pseudonym could well have been seen (perhaps by his boss) as deceitful, since he was paying himself for these stories, but since he was using a pseudonym for all his work at this point in his career you could also say it was business as usual for him and not deceitful. That was the implication that I was trying to make with that form of words; I don't want to be explicit since I don't think the source goes into this at all (I'll check later). Hi Mike: got you. OK. But "in fact" is, IMO, a bit of a phrase to watch; are we implying that other statements aren't? How would you feel about "All the stories Pohl bought from himself were published under pseudonyms; he continued to use pseudonyms for everything he wrote until the 1950s" or similar? Hee - you have just had me checking my 1981 vintage Encyclopedia of SF. (No joy.)
Or "Pohl ensured that all the stories he bought from himself were published under pseudonyms ... "? Gog the Mild (talk) 22:07, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just had a look and I can't find the source right now; it'll turn up. I think we can leave this as you have it, and I'll tweak it when I find the source, if there's anything there to justify more details. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:51, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"was"

[edit]

The first line in the article reads:

Super Science Stories was an American pulp science fiction magazine

(emphasis mine) This suggests that the magazine no longer exists. Surely, it is out of circulation, but it remains a magazine that can be read, doesn't it? At WP Video games, we handle games as still being a game as long as one can still play (not obtain) this game. This only renders online-only games where the game servers have been shut down (thus there no longer being anything to play) as "dead". Lordtobi () 11:21, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
