Edwardian attitudes
[edit]Working on this article and the one on Sol Joel's horse Pommern, I detect a faintly unpleasant undertone in some of the comments on the Joel brothers. They were clearly seen as outsiders by the British establishment, and their actions were often interpreted in rather a cynical way. There is a sadly obvious explanation for this, although another prominent British Jew, Leopold de Rothschild was treated with a great deal of affection and seems to have been very much part of the racing establishment.
