Lomabard League?

There is a sentence to the effect that Suessula was in the Lombard League. If that was in the original Britanica 1911 article, then it is still wrong--I think. Suessula was apparently the main town in a Lombard gastaldia an administrative unit under the original Lombards in the 600s and 700s. The Lombard LEAGUE is something else. It was a northern Italian confederation in the 1200s against Frederick II. Anyway, I'll wait for someone else to weigh in with a comment before I make any changes. Well spotted. What the Britannica article says is just ‘the chief town of a small Lombard principality’. The change to Lombard League must have been a well-meaning error, probably made by someone disambiguating a little too quickly. The gastaldia idea is highly plausible (and accords with the Italian Wikipedia). Ian Spackman (talk) 16:57, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
