Depth
[edit]I live in the Sudbury Basin, and it doesn't seem to be 15 km deep, because it's definitely not half as deep as it is wide. Perhaps this should be 1.5km? But eve nthen that seems kind of deep... (Cabin Tom)
- The article probably means the impact structure, which may reach very deep underground. The visible basin itself doesn't have to deep at all of course.--Jyril 23:52, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yep that makes alot of sense. Thanks. (Cabin Tom 20:09, 22 January 2006 (UTC))
Formed by a comet?
[edit]While doing some research today I came across:"it appears that the Sudbury Crater was formed by a comet" (http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/S/Sudbury_Crater.html), the same thing is noted in: (http://www.news.uiuc.edu/scitips/02/1025craters.html). Should this be mentioned, and if so how do I source the info? (Cabin Tom 20:16, 22 January 2006 (UTC))
Second biggest impact structure
[edit]Recently, wikipedia had an article on the main page about what could be potentially a large impact crater in antartica. Thus, should something be noted to that effect (ie, possibly the second largest impact structure, after...)? (Cabin Tom 20:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC))
Wahnipitei impact structure
[edit]Lake Wahnipitei being formed by an impact is disputed, so should it be stated as a fact? (Cabin Tom 20:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC))
Disputed by whom? I have found no such references. I HAVE found a great many reputable sites on the subject of geology and meteorite impact sites that state (as fact) that Lake Wanipitei occupies an impact crater. 69.60.237.19 (talk) 20:46, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Add Crater Infobox?
[edit]Someone may want to apply crater template {{Infobox crater | crater_name = {{SUBST:PAGENAME}} | image_crater = | alt_crater = | caption_crater = | image_bathymetry = | alt_bathymetry = | caption_bathymetry = | location = | coords = {{coord|89|59|59|N|179|59|59|W|region:ZZ_type:waterbody|display =inline,title}} | type = | basin_countries = | length = | width = | area = | depth = | max-depth = | volume = | rim = | elevation = | cities = | reference = }}

Large Meteorite Impacts and Planetary Evolution
[edit]Just noting Large Meteorite Impacts and Planetary Evolution V August 4–8, 2013 -- Kheider (talk) 16:56, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Given the size of the crater I presume it had a significant 'impact' on the Earth's then ecosystem. So what was the effect on life on Earth, and subsequent evolution ? The Yeti (talk) 23:55, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
