note
[edit]The Presentation section needs amending. The first part: "If someone is deficient in vitamin B12 and folic acid, the vitamin B12 deficiency must be treated first to avoid precipitating subacute combined degeneration of the cord" is correct. But the part in parentheses - "(giving folic acid first will turn the remaining B12 into methylcobalamin which will not be able to participate in fatty acid metabolism)" - is not. The correct reason is that this switches on the 'folate trap' which results in folate being trapped as methyltetrahydrofolate and not being available for the DNA synthesis and methylation processes required for myelin production.

I was wrong above. Nobody knows if the first part is correct, and nobody who thinks it is correct can come up with a reasons.

"myelosis funiculus"?
[edit]I am not english speaking, but I know some Latin. Myelosis funiculus does not seem a correct terminus to me. Who can help? Bis-Taurinus (talk) 11:49, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
