Just in case anyone was wondering, I started this article not because Stump Merrill is particularly notable, but because he was the only NY Yankees manager missing from a list of Yankees managers in another article. (Or at least the only one in the past 50 years.) For the same reason, I started the article on Stan Bahnsen not because he was the least notable retired player without an article on Wikipedia (I am sure he isn't) but because he was the only AL Rookie of the Year (at least within my lifetime) who did not have an article, and he appeared as a "red link" in the succession box of AL Rookies of the Year. In case anyone was wondering. :) 6SJ704:12, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It would be an interesting note that Stump managed over one of the worst periods in Yankee history. Can anyone verify the 1990 Yankees team was the worst in their history?

Not quite, but the worst in a long long time. This 1990 team was 67-95 (.414). In 1913 they went 57-94 (.377), and the year before that 50-102 (.329). That 1912 team is technically the worst in their history. Stump's year and a half could certainly be listed as "one of" the worst periods, however. -- dakern74 (talk) 20:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
