Reviewer Comments

[edit]

Lead

[edit]
  • So I can't access "Vinyl Cafe gets up close and personal; Stuart McLean tells the tales" which is no big deal. However in general sourced claims, unless controversial or a quote, aren't necessary in the WP:LEAD see MOS:LEADCITE. "story-telling comic" is in quotes so that might need a source but that concept isn't in the actual article. This is a shorter article but even still I think MOS:INTRO suggests something just shouldn't be present in the lead and not elsewhere in the article.
  • All of the above is to say that your first sentence does NOT need a citation.
  • And the other 2 citations in the lead are also unnecessary but their ideas should be more explicitly incorporated into the Vinyl Cafe section.

Personal

[edit]
  • Is there a reason you his parents' middle names are listed?
  • I changed it so that the cancer is first noted and then Vinyl Street stopping production. There's no doubt that his cancer belongs in this section but I don't know about having so much Vinyl Street production information. It feels a bit like what was added as news broke and could be rewritten now that it is in the past (with some information also being present in the Vinyl Street section below).

Early Work

[edit]
  • Can anything else be said about his teaching at Ryerson? If not should be incorporated into a different paragraph to avoid a 1 sentence para
  • How relevant is it that he failed to become presenter of Midday?
  • I moved the 1 sentence para about his second book to be after the first book
  • Speak of which is there anything else noteworthy to be said about these books? If so another couple of sentences would be welcome
  • Can any timeframe be given for his reporting on The National and The Journal?

Vinyl Cafe

[edit]
  • Some more context is needed - for instance until I clicked on Vinyl Cafe I didn't realize it was a completely fictional setting (though in retrospect that makes more sense).
  • Probably worth mentioning that McLean produced and then sold the series to CBC (at least per the main article) assuming there is sourcing.
  • If the list of Dave and Morley stories gets its own page probably worth explicitly calling that out by name and linking (though I see it is present in see more)
  • Not sure if the last paragraph of this section is merely interesting or also encyclopedic.

Other GA Criteria

[edit]
  • I noticed overlap in phrasing between this page and Vinyl Cafe. I am going to assume it was written by the same editor in both places or otherwise properly attributed.
  • Besides that no COPYVIO issues
  • Images and references seem to meet GA standards

I'm pinging Bearcat as someone else actively adding to the page so they can participate, as they wish, in this GA review process. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 20:15, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
