[edit]In the working manuscript, the Menuetto precedes the Andante. It also starts laid out as a piano piece, and only by the end of the first page does Schubert appear to have decided finally that it was to be a quartet (and therefore put instrumental markings over the four lines in the contrapuntal introduction).
