I suspect this is a C&P from this website: http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/phpps/ipc/weedinfo/striga.htm Dina 18:09, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks to both of you for the heads up. I removed what I saw of the copyvio material, do you see any left? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Delldot (talk • contribs) 22:23, 3 December 2006 (UTC).
Dr. Ricarda Steinbrecher, in testimony to Agriculture and Forestry Committee of Senate of Canada, 5 December 2006, said:
- "Napier grass — that they can grow outside the borders of the corn, which actually attracts the corn borer. The corn borer likes the smell better than the corn, but it traps it; it has a sticky liquid. At the same time, they found another plant — a Desmodium plant — that can be grown between the corn. It is a very small nitrogen-fixing plant that has a smell that repels the corn borer. At the same time, the Striga weed also does not like it."
Can somebody who knows more about it than me clarify if she meant Desmodium or Napier grass? Trekphiler 08:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Number of species
[edit]Just a short note as I'm currently working on the German article for this genus: The paper cited for the numbers of species says in the abstract that there are 28 species in Africa. The genus description of the Flora Zambesiaca speaks of "some 40 species", see [1]. So I guess the number of species mentioned here is wrong. --Carstor (talk) 20:19, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, It seems to cite the number of species in Africa alone, and doesnt consider the species found in Asia and America. At present I think there is 42-44 species.

Article name
[edit]Currently this page is Striga (plant) and the term Striga is a disambiguation page which mentions the Romanian term Strigoi. There is no need for disambiguation in English, because this is the only use in English; usages derived from the Latin Strix are not really known in English and not relevant here. The result of the proposal was moved. Strigoi can be a {{distinguish}} hatnote. --BDD (talk) 18:18, 10 December 2012 (UTC) (non-admin closure)
Striga (plant) → Striga – See previous comment. The plant name is the only use of the name in English. The current disamb use of Striga contains only one link to this exact name 'Striga', hence is unnecessary. The page Striga (disambiguation) already exists. Imc (talk) 11:09, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
