This article (^ ONE GOOD PISTOL: The Kimber MCSOCOM ICQB Gary Paul Johnston, SOF Magazine) does not support this claim: "The Strider MARSOC SMF is a framelock folding knife that was specifically developed for the USMC's first SOCOM Unit: Detachment 1.[1]" The article contains a short mention of the knife, but nothing to support any claim about it being specifically developed for anyone. Unsourced POV-pushing and false sourcing removed. Sam 06:39, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Sam,
The article references the materials it was made of in the opening sentence (which you deleted) as well as it being made for this Unit.:
"Also adopted by Det-1 was a special MCSOCOM Knife designed by Strider Knives, of San Marcos, California. Made of the finest steel, the MCSOCOM Knife uses G-10 scales and a Liner lock. It is also camouflaged and comes in a special zippered case. Each MCSOCOM knife is numbered to match each pistol and is only available to the Det-1. A special civilian version is also available from Strider in a limited edition." --Mike Searson 08:45, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Neither of these citations (^ Raiding the Past: New spec-ops unit harks back to WWII Raider battalions Marine Corps Times, October 2003 ^ Strider Marine Special Ops Folder, John A. Larsen, Tactical Knives Magazine, September 2003) shows anything that supports this claim: "This was the first knife issued to a US Marine Corps unit in over 60 years.[1] [2]" Unsourced POV-pushing and false citations removed. Sam,
The Article from Marine Times states the following:
"For a fighting knife, however, Det One is not borrowing the stiletto of Raider fame. Nor are they going with the famed Ka-Bar.
Instead, each member of the new 86-man force will get in his individual assault kit a lightweight folding knife made by Strider Knives, a 10-person company in San Marcos, Calif. The knife has a four-inch steel blade and a titanium handle that’s just over 5 inches long.
“It was selected by, built for and issued to” the unit, Dwyer said.
This article was sourcing the first claim (which you you deleted) that is was specifically built for this Unit, please...if you want to help with these articles be constructive.
Larsen's article in Tactical Knives references it was the first knife issued to a USMC Unit in 60 years as well as the first tactical folder issued to the USMC.
The last knife issued to an individual Unit was the knife issued to DET 1's WW2 predecessor, the Marine Raiders as the V42 knife. You see, as Marines...we all look upon each other as being the best of the best and equals, so a knife issued to one unit goes against that grain. Which is why the Corps still issues the KABAR and Bayonet as they always have...however the issued piece of gear is usually lacking. Good to see them step up to outfit this unit with something better than a kabar.
This article will hopefully become a featured article with more substance; deleting large blocks of text as you did with no good reason aside from one reference showing in the wrong place is blatant vandalism, I will not turn this into a page full of links to placate one editor as you had me do on other knife articles. I've given the first warning on your user page. --Mike Searson 08:45, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
