NPOV tag
[edit]The main issue of NPOV tag is that the first paragraph presents opinions as facts:
- "The strict father model of parenting is one which places strong value on discipline as a means to survive and thrive in a harsh world."
- Language should be tweaked just a tad to make explicit that advocates of the model believe this, not necessarily Wikipedia.
- "Children become more self-reliant and more self-disciplined by having strict parents."
- I'm sure this isn't an undisputed fact-- I presume it's the opinion of the advocates of the strict father model. It should be cited with a ref and attributed as "according to advocates of the strict father model, ..."
- "The parent, particularly the father, is meant to mete out rewards for good behavior as well as punish bad behavior."
- Again, adding "within the strict father model" to the sentence, rather than stating it as a fact that fathers are meant to do this.
Additionally, I'd suggest the article be expanded to include a fuller debate about the subject. We mention support and criticism of it, but I expect there's more to say.
Anyway, it's not a big NPOV problem at all-- just a few easy tweaks should fix it, but I wanted to let someone else who is actually familiar with the subject matter make the changes. --Alecmconroy 20:16, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
I think we should just turn this page to a redirect to Moral Politics. Same for nurturant mother.
"So this model of child-rearing would involve allowing a child to cry themselves to sleep." is a prime example of weaseling an emotional reaction into an otherwise factual text. The sole purpose of this example seems to be the need to associate this parenting method as cruel, (insert negative adjective here).. See the discussion on the 'parenting styles' article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.100.124.219 (talk) 09:51, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
