Steamer Freddie: sternwheeler
[edit]The article states:
John Streckfus broke away from the family business, and against his father’s wishes, purchased a steam paddlewheeler, the Freddie, for the purpose of operating freight packets on the Mississippi River. He added two more steamboats for freight service, the Verne Swain and the City of Winona, while offering service on the lower Ohio River.[6] Streckfus purchased the Verne Swain in 1889. The Freddie, a sidewheeler, ran short-hauls of local produce, but Streckfus also sold some passenger tickets.
Kenney claims that the Freddie was Streckfus' first steamboat acquisition. However, he also describes Freddie as a sidewheeler. Blum's book shows that Freddie is a sternwheeler. Therefore, this shows that Kenney has misidentified the Freddie, and his statements look to be correct about the Verne Swain. Obviously, I cannot use him as a source for this, and I will use Blum instead. Oldsanfelipe (talk) 07:23, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
