There exist storytelling games in which the game master has the same authority over the story as in a traditional RPG, using systems of rules for abilities instead of numbers. (i.e. I'm running one LOL) The ... tone of this article seems to suggest that storytelling games lack the amount of structure of traditional RPGs, and this is not nessicarily true. (might even be POV) It depends on how the rules are set up. --Nerd42 02:24, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
External Links
[edit]I am somewhat concerned about the excising of 70% of the external links on this page. If web links can be located for these games, why should they not be included? They seem to fit the requirements for notability, though the requirements should be more lax since we are not talking about an article about them, but a link. They should be restored. Tagged as Needing Referencing
[edit]As someone who supports the encyclopaedic style of compiling and presenting information.. wishing to see article fully founded and built upon the 'bricks' of verifiable reference/s ... and as someone who is interested, but unfamiliar, with the subject of this article .. while the material does seem to have some source material somewhere (?), I find it is all a bit uncertain and emphemeral without the referencing/citations. It would be appreciated if source referencing might be added? Bruceanthro (talk) 22:45, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Missing Examples?
[edit]I was concerned that a number of obvious examples were missing from the discussion. To my mind shouldn't the following games be included?
- Long Live the King [1]
- Once Upon a Time [2]
- The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen [3]
Once Upon a Time and The Adventures... are strictly story-telling, while Long Live the King is more strongly role-playing. --Jason.e.stewart (talk) 06:44, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Controversial Definition
[edit]The discussion makes distinctions between role playing games and non-role playing games that are controversial. Games where there are no "roles" played (such as Once Upon a Time [4] seem better suited to the categorization of non-role playing game. Many examples are omitted (as mentioned above plus Bullwinkle and Rocky Role Playing Party Game [5]). A more full list of games or examples of games and links and discussion establishing the dividing line are needed. --keirgreeneyes (talk) 09:37, 31 October 2011 (EST)
Use of Neutral Term
[edit]Instead of "non-role playing games", section has been renamed "alternate form role playing games", since Ergo and Universalis are or were referred to by makers as rpgs. --keirgreeneyes (talk) 12:24, 30 April 2012 (EST)
Examples are crucial
[edit]Overall the page is simple, it allows the reader to properly understand the page. I don’t think the article has enough examples and there are very little citation links. The citations provide a small variety of articles, interviews and written history. There should be more examples, there are only a few but more will allow readers to better understand the meaning of storytelling games if there are more games to observe.
